Okay, this has been bugging me forever.
What is the big difference between PC and console gaming?
To me it has always been the setup, so when I see players touting the usage of a console game controller over a keyboard for computer games, the hairs at the back of my neck go up.
If I replace my computer tower for my PS3 and use the PS3 controller and my 48 inch LCD tv, what have I really changed?
So the next question would be, why do players who use console game controllers on their PC games put down console gamers?

lower quality visuals, no modding, lower resolution, usually shitty frame rate, no grass

Flamebait, but what the hell, it's not like we have any pro-console mods here anyway.
Mods, better graphics (+ config options on some games to adjust things even further), better controller (debatable, but anyone who says gamepad is better than M&KB is wrong ) and better games. Plus for me, personally: cheats, trainers and memory editing - this can add lots of replay value, and it's kind of representative of the differences between the two platforms as a whole. On consoles, you're stuck with whatever the devs serve you; don't like it, well you can fuck right off, pal. On PC, you can mod/edit the game if you wish to change something. Basically PC gaming gives you more freedom, but consoles require less involvement.

Well, I've been asking myself the same questions for years now...
So I bought an Xbox360.
Questions stopped.
Me happy now.

I like pc and console gaming equally, they both offer me gameplay situations that suit my needs over my random days of wanting to play/do something... I played bf3 with high res pack installed on xbox360 other day and it looked super fine to me.. then im not so anal about looks of games, more if i get sucked into it or not without those needs..

- Better graphics/framerate
- Mouse and Keyboard
- More innovation and more variety of games available (Indie games, Strategy games, Simulations)
- Modding/tweaking (crucial factor for me)
- Better Multiplayer, and better communities overall.

Consoles are more accessible to to chavs and other braindead people who just sit at home waiting for their giro to collect their new batch of pre owned games. PC's have always been the adults gaming choice. Lately developers aim to maximize profits by having every new game multi-format, emergence of how popular mmos (wow) and stalkerbook have killed off the net community as most people knew it, so the difference isn't as great as it used to be, especially when internet was expensive - which served as a great kid/chav filter.
Even the free game updates pc owners used to get have turned into pos DLC's or a console type 'map pack'.
While we don't exactly have the quake/cs/tfc/ut we used to, fps with a pad is retarded compared to mouse/kb only people who would argue otherwise don't/can't afford a good gaming pc. PC games are more varied mmo's in general and games like starcraft/anno simply don't work on a console and radial menus are comical.
Consoles only really excel at racing or sports games, which you could usually play the same game with higher resolution/textures/updates and with the same pad on a good pc anyway.

Personally I don't see a reason for limiting myself to one platform. PC gaming has some serious merits (already mentioned in this thread several times) but consoles also have their place, esspecially if you have a wide taste in games. One thing I know for sure, is that when I was playing Uncharted 1-3 or Heavy Rain, I really didn't care it was just in 720p, not for one second. Neither did I ever regret those 300+$ I paid for my PS3.

Actual content patches weren't exactly the standard in the days of yore, either, but favoring DLC's over actual expansion packs is a sucky trend indeed. You pay more for less content overall - good for publishers, bad for gamers.

For me it's primarily the type of games that get released for PC. They're usually more complex and less streamlined. Most of those games are PC exclusives, and some get ported to consoles, but they aren't primarily made for consoles.
Most multiplatform or console exclusive games however are streamlined, and although they are usually very polished, well made and can offer you a quick fix of fun, they're rarely something I can get truly immersed in.
It's just two different worlds with different developers, different games and different target audience.
And sure there is difference with graphics/controller/mods but those don't mean much to me.

The benefit of mouse and keyboard controls is the key factor for me, while better graphics/framerate/loading times are a nice bonus.

I wouldn't like a console of this (more like last) generation. Why? I could get used to using a gamepad for all games, sure (I would prefer not to though, since most games are way superior when played with mouse and keyboard). What I couldn't get used to is the lack of options, modding and tweaking. Those are really important for me. Better graphics and stuff like that is mostly a bonus, but I really don't mind them (how could I?). Also, nowadays games made for consoles are very similar to those made for PC. In the past, games for consoles were very different from those made for the PC. That also used to be a very important thing for PC, since games felt like they were made for it. Most of them felt really hardcore, unforgiving. I just managed to fix Severance and daaaaaaamn, this game is just amazing! And it looks so damn good, even for today standards. It's one of the games that aged really well, if not the best.

Consoles are definitely for local groupgaming. Thus I have xbox with all the music games and sports games.
On pc I don't want people breating down my neck.
But mainly I'm a pc player. Been a month since I touched console.

Sadly it's the other way around. PC games nowadays are more and more similar to console games mainly because they are either ports or "multiplatform" titles that are geared towards the console market.

First let me preface this by saying we own:
a wii (I have kids)
3 Xbox 360's
2 PS3's
a PSP
a 3ds
and a few older gaming consoles/handhelds.
We also have 4 desktop computers. Each of my boys has a pretty decent gaming computer and i have a nice one myself.
Out of all those units, all of us spend way more time on our PC's than any of the consoles. My 7 year old has discovered Gary's Mod and hasn't looked back since. My 16 year old prefers certain games on the PC because of modding (Skyrim, Fallout, Warcraft, etc etc) and because of the better graphics. I prefer certain games on my PC as well and spend WAAAY more time there than on my console. HOWEVER, there are games i thoroughly enjoy that are only available on the console. Sports games, certain race games, etc. Having all those consoles and gaming PC's, i can say without a doubt that the PC is hands down the better platform.
the only con with a PC is that it is expensive to get a top end gaming system. But, you really don't need the very top end machine to play today's consolized game ports for the most part.
Oh, and the reason console players tend to get hammered by PC players for the most part is because we feel like all of our games are being "dumbed down". Things that used to be turned based and tactical are turned into First Person Shooter and Action where graphics count first and gameplay is 2nd to all else. This is just typical kinda stereotyping. You will find PC player son these very forums that are the exact same way.
