Hey guys

Well my 8800gtx finally died. What a great card. Anyway I'm looking to replace it but its just been xmas and I'm a little broke. I'm a bit out of touch with current upgrades. So I have about 100 to 150 gbp to spend. What would you guys suggest? It will be nvidia that's not debateable.

Been online for fourteen years. Never been without my comp . I'm writing this on my fucking phone (cry)

Thanks doods

hmm, at that price range you might want to look at either 460, 470 or 570 depending on price variations in your area.

it doesn't
u can pay xtra what 10-15 pounds if u want, but u can always overclock those cards anyway
or u can get this one , it's 3 pounds cheaper than epsiolns but same clock Razz

http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/Palit-1024MB-GDDR5-GeForce-GTX460-SONIC-OVERCLOCKED-VGA--Dual-DVI--HDMI-PCI-E,-Retail_33590.html

so it's purely your choice

Just figured i'd throw in my opinion... I have a Radeon HD 4800 and I love it ... Really cheap now too I think. Never had a problem with any game. Only lag i've ever even gotten is NWN2 in the forest area with Flora goes apeshit spawning blades of grass.

NVIDIA's 6800 series isn't that new though. Very Happy

GT500 series or how it's called (GF500?) is probably difficult to find plus price inflation so I'd agree with the above about either the 460 or slightly better 470 depending on pricing, unsure about aftermarket coolers and similar data but from the above they should overclock nicely anyhow if you want extra performance though I'm no expert. Smile
(560 was planned as well but early Q1 2011 I think the current expected date was.)

@ JBeckman: GF110 Wink

Do NOT get the GTX 460 SE! That's more like a GTX 455, it has 1 SM disabled. What you want is one of these
Few quid over your budget, but you'll be set for at least a couple years Smile

At that price range the GTX 460 rules so just make sure you get the 1GB non-castrated version (so not the SE).

That evga card is £20 cheaper at scan.
Heard they can have pretty noisy coolers.
super clocked one is cheaper there too

Oh I just picked out Overclockers because I know they're not the cheapest in the UK, with a bit of searching you can indeed find better deals like Slizza posted.

If you do end up getting a reference card btw, make sure to set a custom fan profile. The stock fan whistles at 48-52% fanspeed, which is pretty annoying, so just have it ramp up quickly if it has to get that high Smile

thanks for the advice guys. The 460 looks like the one, so dont get the SE edition? ok. now its finding one cheapish. Scan have about as bad rep for price as overclockers lol. used to shop on scan and oc all the time. the 460 non SE is top of my budget to be honest but nevermind

on another note, its been 3 days and I feel a little bit insane now, this can't be normal.

Yep, the one Mortibus posted is a good one, great deal at that price.

What's wrong with mini HDMI btw Mortibus? You get a converter with the card anyway, so who cares Very Happy

for two reasons; it's pointless and it doesn't sit good in place and if it's located like in gigabyte card it's impossible to use coz it's too close to case and converter is simply too fat
lame and useless, don't understand why u need mini for something that is already small, it's not like it's significantly smaller, it's just stooopid that's all Razz

I have a MSI GTX 460 1GB Cyclone. It has a dope and silent cooler. No hdmi but I could care less and you get a converter anyway.

Nearest RMA centre for palit is in the US so you might want to choose a model with a centre in the UK so if anything goes wrong there is less risk of a long wait for a replacment.

Not saying they are bad or don't get one.
It's just another thing to consider when buying a card.

I know Asus and KAF2 have RMA centres in the UK.

but i cant argue for the 136 pricetag tho, if it breaks it breaks. Hopefully it wont. I'm just hoping that is IS actually my gfx card that broke in the first place. My mobo is beeping on post and the display on the mobo reads 2b when it does a long beep which according to the manual is "initialise video"

the fan still starts up on the card but no display and it stops at 7f which is hardware failure. So the long beep at 2b "initialise video" and then settling on 7f "hardware failure" pretty much tells me that its the gpu.

god the wait for this is agonising. I dare anyone here to turn off there comp and not touch it for 3 days, Im writing all this shit on a tiny phone screen.

Maybe it be good for Nforce site admin to shut this place down for 3 days a year on a set date and time schedule as to help the addictive ones here take a break from the hump Very Happy

we can call it "NoHumping Day" and at least its more worthy of use than fucking newyears bollox.
