Hey guys!
I've been thinking some time about buying an Ebook Reader, since having to buy books all the time gets rather expensive.
I have no idea what to look for or for that matter if E-readers is even worth it. At the moment I am borrowing a sony 505, which have a bit to small screen for my taste. It's an 6 inch screen I think, so maybe 8 would fit me better?
Some general questions:
Copy protection. Is there any reason to worry about that? Can't all e-readers read pirated material? If this is not the case, then it goes with out saying that I need something with out restrictions!
Which file formats are important? Is there some format better than all the others? If I would happen to fall upon a book which isn't supported by the e-reader, is it then possible to convert the book to some other format?
Ok so I guess the features I want is something like:
It will have to be able to turn pages rather fast.
Touchscreen so that it is possible to write notes in the margin of the book kinda like:
Quote: | One of the advanced features of the iLiad is the ability to add notes to existing documents. With the integrated Wacom tablet and stylus, it is possible to write directly on almost any document and those notes will remain on that document whenever it is viewed on the iLiad. Using the desktop software, those notes can be merged into the original document. This provides malleability, an important feature of physical books that is missing from most ebook products, allowing users to annotate, highlight, and personalize the text. |
Further more I guess it would be possible to use the touchscreen when searching, so I only have to write some word in an it will search for it. (something to recognize writing).
E-ink or whatever it is called to have an ok batteri lenght
A proper zoom function. The sony 505 can't zoom in on pdf's made from scanned books( atleast I couldn't make it do it). This lack together with the small screen size makes it impossible to read scanned books.
Does an e-reader like this exist and how would the price be?

Yeah but hasn't got the features I want. I guess it would be simpler just to buy a cheap ereader for fiction and a cheap tablet for textbooks.
Whats the cheapest tablet with touchscreen around?

The newer Sony models are pretty good. I wouldn't buy an ebook reader untill there are full-color versions. I'm using my Ipod now for reading, pretty good. It might be inconvenient when you read hours upon hours every single day though.
I used the Sony PRS350 myuself btw. I returned it because it felt very restrictive for 180 euros. It was very good though, I can recommend it.

Yeah I like the sonys to but they only make 6 inches which is to small for textbooks.
It looks nice but it only have 8 hours of battery, which is somewhat to short.
