quake two is still the game i have the fondest memories off and that has the best weapon ever included in any game, ever. Oh the glory of the hyperblaster

Well to be honest, I quite liked it. The intro movie alone is worth the price, setting the mood and scene very well, it's just a shame that beyond this the game becomes stale and doesn't advance beyond the shoot to kill.
The end boss was also a pushover.
Not bad, but having seen it all before there are better games out there and QII does nothing to advance the genre.
(just testing my new account, though slightly annoyed that we had to even go through this to begin with > )

If you wan't to play Quake 2 just get the collectors edition with all versions included (1, 2 and 3). One cool thing is that they've ported the game to pocket pc. It's out both for linux and wm2002/03 ppc's.

Damn, dont you remember it being new? I mean the game was the shit back then (not the game the mods IMO) the story... didnt make much sense.

I remember playing Quake II when it first came out and it really was one of the best games I had ever played at the time. I'd never seen a 3D accelerator back then and my friend went out and bought a 4MB Orchid Voodoo 1 specially for it. We went back to his house loaded it up pronto. I couldn't believe what I was seeing: smooth textures with no pixelization, enemies that actually ducked fire and even played dead, 3D explosions (instead of 2D sprites,) not to mention being entirely unprepared for hearing Rob Zombie blasting out of the speakers on the first level! Class
It is a pity that it only took me about 2 days to complete on the hardest skill though. I was so disappointed when I got to the last level and killed the end of game boss with 4 (yes, 4) shots from the BFG. Pitiful The multiplayer is where it was really at with Quake II. Anyone else remember the C.H.A.O.S Mod? Proxy mines that screamed "Yippee!!!" and howled like fucking Tarzan as they chased you about the level

q1 had the greatest mods, but quake2 had some awesome weapons, the famous railgun!
q3 was like okay, but never really liked it as much as q1 and q2.
