I seem to have a hornets nest on the ceiling of the bar I work at. They are definitely hornets, and they definitely sting. I know this because I have been stung repeatedly. The issue is I want to get rid of the hornets nest because it is posing a danger to everyone in the bar, namely myself, but I also want to get their honey. You can't buy good, fresh, real honey nowadays and its a fact that hornets make way better honey than honeybees. Any suggestions on how to get the hornets out or kill them without contaminating the honey? I have tried smoking out the hornets but they just keep popping back up and stinging me in the throat.

Really looking for some good advice here.
Thanks

In Poland you call fire department for hornets removal, they might remove them without damaging the honey.

if you get stung constantly and you're so ok about it (not yelling and rolling on the floor) it means they're wasps not hornets. hornet = hospital. hornet sting to throat = few minutes to live.

Wear thick clothing and something that covers your face and mouth, then take a big bunch of leaves and stuff that gives off a lot of smoke, light it up and cover it so the smoke ends up inside the hornets nest. The smoke will make them drowsy and unable to be aggressive, poke the nest gently to confirm it. Afterwards use a knife to cut the nest down (drop it into a plastic bag full of small holes, seal it) move the nest to a nearby forest, put it on the ground and unseal the bag (still wearing protective wear) and go back home.

The less friendly version is to douse the nest in kerosene and light it on fire, but that will probably make it worse for everyone involved.

Yes, yes I'm back.

They ARE hornets, there's a big H on the box which I'm smoking them from.

Where I'm from hornet nests are protected by law, so you cant just burn em down. (It's not like anyone would actually care though) So you just call the fire department. (No I'm not from Poland)

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

DarkPassenger,

don't get me wrong m8 but are you smoking something? You want honey from hornets? I hope you're joking! Anyways, let's imagine, how large should nest be to get a spoon of honey? How would you squeeze the honey out of the nest? Very Happy

lol

That`s crap dude. wasps and bees are more toxic than hornets. Hornet stings hurt more, cause their poison has more of a neurotxin that causes pain. In fact even 500 stings wont kill you.

Hornets kill wasps and are not agressive - only if you come close to their nest.
If you have some balls, just wear some thick closes and try to move the nest to a place where it doesn`t bother anyone.
Just like spiders, hornets kill many of the insects, that annoy you even more

I have removed many wasps nests.
The idea is simple.
You bash the crap out of the nest with a stick...then you run like the wind.

Dont work. They come right back and build a new nest..bigger than the last. I had a football sized bald headed hornets nest on my roof siding. Hired some retart off of craigs list. Hit it with a broomstick, ran for life, paid the guy. Next week, nest was back up being built again. I did it myself. You must go at night time or early in morning when they are all in nest and sleeping. Buy Foam spray and shoot up into the hole. I used entire can. Hornets were dropping out dead on my head. I killed the Queen. End of story. No more nest rebuilding.

Japanese honey bees cook a single hornet:

Hornet kills a tarantula (actually it follows the tarantula in it's cave, drags it out and drags it on to a tree after it killed it Laughing)
