|

Im gonna get about 650€ quite soon and I could prolly save some more money if needed.
My current pc:
Spoiler: |
4x A-DATA 1GB DDRII 800 128Mx8
Samsung HD403LJ 400GB, 7200rpm, 16MB, SATA II 300Mb/s, NCQ
Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz/1066FSB/8MB/Box (BX80562Q6600)
CHIEFTEC PSU ATX 650W PFC 14CM BLACK with Cable management CFT-650-14CS
Aerocool ExtremEngine 3T
GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R P35/ ICH9/ 775 Dual Core/ 1333FSB/ PCI-E x16/ 3+3 PCI-Ex1/ Dual 4xDDRII 800 (1066)/ 2xDDRIII 800 (1066)/ 8-ch audio/ 8xSATAII 1xPATA/ Gb-e LAN/ RAID/ ATX
BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT OC 512MB PCIe 2.0, Core 625 Mhz (600standard) Memory 1566 Mhz (1500 Mhz standard) Memory Data Rate 1800 Mhz
Syncmaster 1920x1080 monitor, wich has one big flaw, it uses only VGA cable
|
So I was planning on getting a new GPU since it's kinda the weekest link with such a monitor. First problem might be the size of the case. I was an idiot and bought an expensive case which has too little room tbh. I had to do a little case mod and put the side ventilator outside the case to fit in custom cooling for gpu and cpu. Would the newer cards fit?.The second problem is prolly the VGA monitor. Would I have to get a new one if I want a decent card?
Also is my motherboard good enough? Would 650W be sufficent? If I need to change too many things I might save up for longer and buy a new PC. feedback plox :>

ugh I hate that case. anywho....650 watt is more than enough, pay more attention to the 12v amps. Any new gfx card should fit, measure the distance from the PCI brackets to the HD brackets for us..
No you don't have to get a new monitor, video cards come with a vga to dvi converter plug.
Motherboard is fine. All you really need a better video card honestly, everything else is fine.

Yeah the PSU is more than fine. CWT build (most of Corsair's PSU are CWT as well for example), multi-rail design and it can handle 18A on each of its 4 rails. Quite a fine PSU
A GTX 460 is 0.75 inch shorter than an 8800 GT, so that should easily fit.
You should wait a few more days though, until we know what the HD6850/6870 are priced like, chances are they'll take the GTX 460's throne at that pricepoint

should I also buy some extra cooling? well at the moment ive got accelero s2 on my 8800gt.That takes up most of the space, the card itself fits fine.

gtx 460 are pretty cold cards comparing even to your old 88, no xtra cooling required
even if u wait for new amd cards, it will take at least 1 or 2 month till the prices drop and it won't be as much, 20-30 euro? it's up to u however

lets not forget new cards, new drivers, new optimizations will be required so maybe after getting the card u still have to wait for a proper drivers at least a month or a two
dunno about prices in Estonia however |
170 only goes for the Palit model, rest are all 180+ - 6850 has been spotted at 180 already at one of the most expensive shops (Informatique).
And your driver argument is useless, Evergreen didn't need driver optimisations, I highly doubt Barts will. Assuming AMD are doing it like they did last year, the performance indication from their presentation slides will be close to real-world applications; last year their slides turned out to be worse than the real thing.
Anyway, there's no reason not to wait, since it will all be revealed this friday, 2 days waiting isn't gonna hurt. NVIDIA has no wiggle room left on the 460's - 470's and 480's are already being sold at a loss, I highly doubt they'll drop their cashcow (the 460) to the point where it's not profitable. If the choice is between a 460-1GB and an at-least-equal performing 6850 the choice is pretty easy.

I have about 25cm x 15cm room for a gpu. Maybe could be a bit more in length if it goes under the hdd a bit. that enough for the newer cards?

Well you have the 8800GT which a 5850 is only like 2CM longer and a 5870 a few CM onger so you'll have plenty of room

5850 is half an inch longer, 9.5 versus 9 for your 8800GT, so that's 9.5 * 2.54 = 24.13 versus 9 * 2.54 = 22.86cm. 5870 is 10.5 inches, or 10.5 * 2.54 = 26.67 cm.
Moving your HDD up or down a slot will give you plenty of space
