Right. So I got my asus 5870 card and 3 identical 24".
I can find them all using Catalyst control center and individually they all work.

However, when I enter Desktop & Displays and try to add all 3 screens..it refuse to let me use more than 2. When I try to add the third one it says "to extend the desktop, a desktop or display must be disabled." Im using 3 of the 6 ports on my card. 2 is with dvi adapter and the last one is hdmi. I can swap around in any order I want using just the outer two, the two on the left or the two on the right...but no matter which screen I try to add as the third one I still get that same message.

Any ideas? (gonna see if I can find new drivers now)

ATI Eyefinity technology works with games that support non-standard aspect ratios, which is required for panning across multiple displays. To enable more than two displays, additional panels with native DisplayPort connectors, and/or DisplayPort compliant active adapters to convert your monitor’s native input to your cards DisplayPort or Mini-DisplayPort connector(s), are required.

Right, so more expenses Sad so what use are the 6 ports on the cards?

1 x CrossFire-kabel
2 x DisplayPort-DVI-adapter
1 x DisplayPort-HDMI-adapter
2 x Mini DisplayPort-DisplayPort-adapter

Atm Im using the last 3. Should I distch the hdmi adapter and buy another mini displayport adapter instead to get it to work?

Wait, just hold on before you buy anything. First of all, as I understand, your monitors have a DP right? If so, and 2 are hooked up with MiniDP-DP, then your current setup should be fine. What you're saying in your post there is that you've hooked 2 up with a MiniDP-to-DP and one with a MiniDP-to-HDMI Wink

Do you have the Hydra vision stuff somewhere? That's Eyefinity. See if you can get all 3 running there. I can't check because I'm not on ATI, but it should be a completely separate option Smile

Now this is weird...ive downloaded the latest drivers from ati's homepage... and installed Hydravision. But it says that it will only run when an ati display driver is loaded...an ati display driver is not currently detected on your system

Try properly removing it all first (driver sweeper yay), the drivers that came with your card are probably ancient ones Smile

Anyway, the ports on the back of the card are all DP right? What you said was:
Quote:
2 x DisplayPort-DVI-adapter
1 x DisplayPort-HDMI-adapter
2 x Mini DisplayPort-DisplayPort-adapter

Atm Im using the last 3.

So you're using one adapter that goes from DP to HDMI, and 2 that go from DP to mini-DP? If that is the case, then you shouldn't need to buy any active adapters and it should just work.

Basically, the problem is that one signal generator (not the correct term, but easier to explain this with Razz) for DVI/HDMI can only drive up to 2 monitors. That's not a design flaw by ATI, that's just how it works. They could add another signal generator, but they've decided to go with DP instead.

Now, if your monitors support DP or mini-DP, that doesn't affect you. What I'm guessing though is that you in fact have 2 monitors connected with the DP-to-DVI adapters, and one with DP-to-HDMI? In that case, you'd need just 1 active adapter Smile

Would help if you just gave me the monitor make/model so I can look them up

Setting up Eyefinity itself is a piece of cake after that Smile

Cheers mate - your ofc correct on my settings (these are my monitors btw BenQ 24" LCD G2420HD). Unfortunatly it seems like active adapters cost a fortune

however, I did find this one "Sapphire Adapter Active DP to SL-DVI" for aprox €34. You think that one will work?

So what would I need if I wanted to use all 6 ports on my card? 4 active ones?

I just realized that ive said the wrong thing to you - ive been using the 2 x DisplayPort-DVI-adapter and NOT the 2 x Mini DisplayPort-DisplayPort-adapter. Dunno how this will change my situation though

No, that's what I expected. That €34 adapter will be fine, that's the adapter ATI came up with a couple of months ago Smile

Buy one of that, and you should be fine. Run 2 monitors off the passive DP-to-DVI adapters, and one off that active adapter, should be enough to get it working Smile

Edit: To use all 6 ports you'd need 6 active adapters, yes. Would be more economical to get monitors that have DisplayPort built in

No problem Smile

I wish I had the space to put a third monitor here. I tried Eyefinity with just 2 monitors, and that was already good fun. Especially with GRID for example, a game that handles it REALLY well. Basically my secondary monitor would be displaying the other side of the car. Unlike what most people think, something like Eyefinity isn't meant to give you 3 screens to actively look at, but instead make games work with your eyes properly. When sitting in a real car, you often notice stuff from the corner of your eyes, and that's exactly what I experienced in GRID. I wouldn't actively look at the second monitor often, but I'd notice stuff coming up behind me more because the rear view mirror was in a more logical place, and when being overtaken I'd notice much sooner. I did find myself actually using the outer mirror though, so that was good as well Very Happy

/me envies you Sad

Got it to work now - unfortunatly the graphics looks weird without a widescreen fix in games, and this fix might be concidered cheating when you play online and just might get you banned Sad

Haven't heard of any games that ban you for that, having awesome hardware isn't cheating if they're too stupid to do something against it

As far as a widescreen fix goes: sadly, a lot of games don't take advantage of it, no Sad

Some do though, the NEON/EGO based games do (both DIRTs, GRID, that abomination of an F1 game, etc.), SHIFT does and of course in a lot of modern shooters you can adjust the FOV Smile

With both Nvidia and Ati having a triple screen support as a feature now, I am sure there will be more support in games in the future.
When it comes to shooters, BC2 has native Eyefinity support as far as I know...

You can get banned for using 3rd party software - and in some cases You need it to get the aspect to get correct on the left and right screen.
