There, I said it.

I installed it a couple of weeks ago after I ran into some issues with my motherboard. Apart from SiSoft Sandra, nothing is as detailed as Everest, so I used that to check not only voltages, but also currents etcetera. The issue turned out to be the VTT, for the record, I had cleaned my PC a couple days earlier and deliberately reset the BIOS because I switched some connectors around. On my motherboard I need at least 8% slack on the VTT, and I forgot to fix that setting after the reset.

Anyway, I didn't uninstall Everest after I figured the above out, because I simply forgot about it. A couple of days ago I suddenly started experiencing random ATI driver crashes, complete system lockups or moments where it would just shut down the GPU. Most cases would call for a press on the reset button.

The problem for all of that was the VDDC and VDDCI (respectively core and shader voltage) of my 5870 jumping up to 1.675 for no apparent reason; note, stock is 1.162 for the core, 1.150 for the shaders. 1.6 is well out of safe ranges as well, and it was IDLING at 60 degrees celsius with 50% fanspeed. I tried everything, from trying different driver versions, to trying to fix the voltages with Afterburner/Rivatuner/AMD GPU Tool/ATI Tray Tools, nothing worked.

Just as I was about to check the actual card for damage (since wrong voltages not caused by software usually means the VRM's got fucked), I came across this thread about Everest bumping these voltages on a wide variety of GPUs.

Got rid of it, and voilĂ , problems solved.

Conclusion: It is a poorly programmed piece of shit, much like all the console ports we get. I recommend staying well away from it.

the only problem i had with everest is reporting false gpu temps, it showed 10 degrees less than my actual, rolling back to 5.30 versio fixed that
