Currently I'm using ASUS P5KC, with XFX GF8800GTX 768.

Friday night (it's always friday, so I have to wait 3 days to get my shit fixed) 2-nd XFX blew in these like 8 months. (ram corrupted, then stopped sending signal to monitor).

So currently directly beneath my GF8800 is my LAN card (like 0,5cm) and it's really hot. So I wonder, if I get ASUS P5Q SE PLUS, I'll have 1 more slot, which will increase the distance between my GF and my LAN card by around 2-4cm, and somewhat help with cooling of the GF. (the bottom 3-rd slot is taken by my SB)

And I'm warndering can I put a video card heatsink addon ontop of the GF, cause there is almost no distance between the GF and the RAM.

I find it really intersting, that nobody knows that INTEGRATED cards are SHIT.

Like when I use my integrated gigabit lan card, I can't get over 6MB/s, but when I use my Intel gigabit lan card, I go over 12MB/s..
Or when your CPU is 100% your sound starts breaking up, but when you use outboard SoundBlaster, even if your PC hangs, sound continues..

That's a fucking crock of shit. There's nothing wrong with integrated LAN adaptors and you're just falling into the propaganda spread by that hack Jonathan fucking Wendel.

"Hi, my name is FATA1DLTIDG and I know every frame per second counts (not to mention every cent I get paid for sticking my name to whatever trash comes along) which is why I'm putting my name on a NEW piece of trash! The Fatal1ty Super Awesome Gigabit Network Accelerator Pro!"

Pffffft.

If you're getting issues using the network adaptor, it's your PC or your ISP. I've been using onboard NICs for YEARS and guess what? I ain't NEVER had a single issue with them. If my network supports 100/1000 base, I GET the maximum speed. If my ISP is having a good day, I GET the maximum speed.

If you're getting issues with sound, it's your PC. I've been using an onboard sound card for YEARS and guess what? I ain't NEVER had a single issue with them, not at 0% CPU and not at 100% CPU when running torture tests. Now I'm running a USB-powered Creative HS-1100 and it's exactly the same; no friggin' issues.

lol wtf my with gig lan realtek or wtv i get like 70mb/s over gig switch, something is wrong with your on board lan/drivers or your cable is shit, 12mb/s is 100 mbit lan lulz, defo shitty cable

also used realtek and via on board no sound issues at all, again yours could be software related

What's funny is that I had SERIOUS sound issues with my Audigy4 with crackling sound. I refused to believe it was the card so I even switched around and changed cables. Then I took out my old asus soundcard that came with the MB which had dust on it cause I've almost never used it, switched it out for the Audigy4 and voila, the crackling sound went bye-bye and I haven't had an issue since (1 year ago).

However, my NIC is poopoo since it's an nvidia model so I've had some issues with both ports but after some fiddling around and googling they now work super ace. ^_^

I don't like integrated cards, based on my expirience with them.

Speaking of the matter at hand, any suggestions on topic?

Unless the RAM is situated BELOW the graphics card, rather than BEHIND it (like every board on the market Razz) then you won't have any issues fitting an aftermarket cooler. They are, nine times out of ten, thicker. Not longer. You should be fine.

I was offering a blanket statement of reassurances, dumb ass Razz RAM is *never* below the GPU, I know this, but I was just covering my ass.

Doesn't this go UNDER the video card?
Because I don't see how this will go ABOVE, because there is the standard cooler, or it replaces it?

If it replaces the original one, I don't know if It can get better..

All after-market coolers replace the existing one mate :\ You can't piggyback them like a double decker bus Very Happy As for it not getting better, trust me; stock coolers are 90% of the time cheap tin shit and would never stand up to a decent after-market one ... even if the after-market one looks "smaller" Razz

OK, the one I'm displaying is the one I've thought of buying, but it seems that it cools only the GPU, what about the RAM? The original cooler has heatsinks for the RAM chips too..

This is generally what I have to choose from:

Generally after-market coolers come with RAM heatsinks too.

The Musashi does I think.

About the onboard vs standalone NIC btw: if you're getting twice the speed on the standalone, you most likely have fucked up one of the settings for the onboard one; you sure it's on full duplex and running at full speed? Onboard NICs these days are plenty fine, a really good standalone might get you a couple megabits extra, but that's about it. Same bullshit as Bigfoot's KILLER NIC, which promises to lower your ping - I lol'd.

You mean back when having a full-duplex card was still something of the "better" NICs, and COAX was still used for networks? Cool Face

A friend of mine is trying to get me to buy the Palit one, cause Asus had problems with their coolers, but from what I can see of pictures of both cards, they're the same, with just different logos.

Not to mention, that my RAM will fall down to 2,5GB, cause of this VGA's 1,5GB of DDR5 and my x32 OS...

At first I was looking for the new 450GTS to buy, but it turned out that my 3yo 8800gtx had better performance Sad

8800GTX vs 450GTS

Memory: 768MB GDDR3 vs 1024MB GDDR5
Memory Bus Type: 64x6 (384 bit) vs 64x2 (128 bit)
Core Clock: 575 MHz vs 783 MHz
Memory Clock: 900 MHz (1800 DDR) vs 1804 MHz (3608 DDR)
Texture Units: 32 vs 32 (56 not sure which version has this*)
Raster Operators: 24 vs 16 (32 not sure which version has this*)
Memory Bandwidth: 86.4 GB/sec vs 57.728 GB/sec
Pixel Fill Rate: 13800 MPixels/sec vs 12528 MPixels/sec

not bad for a 3-4yo card Razz

* probably some high-end OC version of the 450
