Quote:
Dragon Ball Z Kai (known in Japan as Dragon Ball Kai, ドラゴンボール改 「カイ」; Doragon Boru Kai; Lit. Dragon Ball Revised) is an anime series that is an HD Remaster and Recut of Dragon Ball Z done for its 20th Anniversary. It premiered on Fuji TV on April 5th 2009 at 9:00am just before One Piece, and the two shows are being marketed together as 'Dream 9', which refers to the hour in which they both air. Two issues of Shonen JUMP have included some primary information about the series.

Quote:
The series is being extensively "refreshed" for Japanese TV. This is not a new animation, but rather a remastered edit that runs through certain events of Dragon Ball Z. Part of this is reformatting and extending the picture to 16:9 Widescreen. Through digital processing, the image is made vibrant. All the grime, damage and noise remaining on the "Z" film is removed, making the image much clearer in HD.
New ending credits with new animations of the villains.

A comparison with the original video side-by-side shows considerable cropping to achieve the 16:9 aspect ratio. However, it seems carefully done to avoid missing anything important. The original image is not stretched, just cut where it would be more appropriate, being a "tilt and scan" or "reverse pan and scan" of the original Dragon Ball Z footage.

This series started in April 2009 and if you like this you have some catching up to do.
57 episodes out so far of an expected 100.

I started to watch it but got kinda bored of it..

but one thing i want to mention is after watching original dragon ball, dragon ball z and dragonball GT is

Kai is simply boring. What made dragon ball series so awesome were the cliffhangers in each episode, casting KAMEHAMEHA in 5 episodes was amazing

I just could not get into watching those "speedy" episdoes, I don;t remember but didnt they summarize dragon ball in just one episode?

i think i outgrew dbz. i look back on it and it was never THAT good, there was a fuckload of fillers n shit, and while some may like it, stretching 5 minutes worth of content into 20 fucking episodes, where it takes a planet an entire season or some shit to 'blow up in 10 minutes', really made it drag.

but as it stands, overall it was ehh, BUT at its HIGHEST points (esp. cell saga) it really did kick some fucking ass, better than most anime... but overall, too much fluff and padding.

what id have liked to have seen them done is just reboot it. usually i dont like reboots on principle, but fma's one turned out really well, because they had a finished manga to work from. id like to see the same thing with dbz. redo it and tighten it up, rather than chopping it, and they could make something really amazing.
