|
 |
Hello I am looking for advise on whether to get a DS or PSP. I would like to hear opinions on both sides. If I go with the DS I will likely go with the lite as the DSi costs more and has less battery life and the XL is just too costly at this time. If I go with the PSP I guess any version other than the new one would be good.
Here are the factors I that I need to decide on what to get.
- Pirating is a must and must be simple and not add too much cost.
- Price for obvious reasons.
- Game library especially good RPG's. But other genres are nice too.
Also I am not sure how to pirate on the DS or PSP so any info or guides would be very helpful. Any opinions and input is appreciated thank you.

PSP is great for emulators (snes, genesis, neogeo, cps2 etc and even some n64) and it has some good games, it can also play PS1 games
Newer PSPs are unhackable so far (a few PSP2000s, most PSP3000s and the PSPGo) that may well change in the near future but there are no guarantees
PSP 1000s are very simple to hack and should be dirt cheap second hand
PSP hacking is a little bit involved, nothing too serious, I got my PSP2000 pre-hacked so can't comment
DS is easily hacked, all you do is pop in a cartridge, it has 100s of games and is far more supported than the PSP
Just be careful which cart you buy, some are bettter than others, GBA games need their own special cart to work, the DS can't perform it by itself for some reason
It also does some emulation but is not as good as the PSP
DS is probably the best choice for you but if you can also get a hackable PSP for cheap then it's worth considering
just google "psphacks" or "best ds flash cart" for some good resources

PSP is fun, but other than a couple of games I got bored of mine quickly.
The DS suffers from the mini-games market, but I do keep going back to my DS

DS has one thing going for it; the castlevania games!
Other than that psp is better imho. Better at media (movies, pics, etc), nicer overall. It just feels slick, with nice big screen.
There are many rpg games for psp. Persona 3 is comming soon for example. You also have the whole ps1 library obviously. And emulators as mentioned before.
I have acecard for ds which is really good (all games work). It´s still a bit of a hassle to take out card from ds, put it in usbstick, then put back. Psp is just to connect with usb-cord and you are set. Minor complaint.

The PSP us 10 times more awesome, but it's hard to pirate the newer ones.
Maybe get a used one ?
On the psp you can also play all psx titles, and all nes\snes, mega drive, even N64 (limited)
And a trillion other systems.
It's the ultimate gaming+emulation machine.
The DS is just queer.

Okay I would like to thank you all for your opinions. While I think I would enjoy the PSP more I simply cannot afford the price difference or the risk of getting a version that isn't pirateable plus the long DS battery life is attractive and useful since I will use it for long trips.
Now for another question I've been looking into Acekard flash carts and they seem easy to use and seem to be popular. But there are several versions and the official website doesn't seem to point out the differences. Which should I get?

Acekard 2i is the newest one, the "i" just means it also supports the DSi as well as the other DS
No idea how good they are, I've read a liitle that says they are good
Avoid the R4 clones, my sister has one and although it works it's a major pain in the ass
the gbatemp forums look like a good place for more info if you don't get your answers here

Get an Acekard2i , they are the best cart for the money for sure. Install the latest AKAIO kernel instead of the official one

Easiest is to get a DS (preferably an XL, I traded my DS Lite for an xl for cheap) and a good flashcart, preferably a CycloDS (unless you have a dsi or dsi xl) or get an Acekard2i and a class 6 microsd card.
PSP piracy is a little more involved.

I´ve been giving this some thought.
Psp is way better.
The only time one should go for a ds is if the person is into quirky puzzle games.
What is better on psp:
SRPG, with games like joan darc, ff, disgaea
Sports, Fifa etc, better gfx
Driving, Burnout, Wipout, etc, etc, there is no game for ds at all
Fighting, Tekken, SF, Blazeblue
And other genres where psp is equal to ds (imho better, due to bigger screen , better gfx), action/adventure/rpg.
Last big game released for ds was DQ9, last big game for psp was Persona3. I don´t even now if there will be any more games worth mentioning to the ds, for the psp there is plenty more to come.

what good are good games when the controls are utter shit?
And 3DS offers better gfx and the DS offers better gameplay. (combine both like nintendoes did. and you got a psp killer. Just like the DSi)
DS and Nintendo usually always offer pick up and play games.
I can't stand the psp. I bought some PSN and old PSX titles for it. FUCK.

PSP for the emu aspect ... owning psp is like having a portable PSone,Nes,Snes,GBA,Amiga,C64... it even runs Dos games , then only down side is the size of those flash cards

I'd rather own a system designed for emulation.
I don't trust emulators on a hand held designed for other things.
