was just wondering if any of you use a SATA burner to burn your ISO's? If so, wht brand and model?
I bought a new mobo and for some reason, it is giving me fits with its IDE connector so i wanted to buy a SATA DVD burner. I know its not my drive because I have tried 3 different drives with 3 different cables. I may RMA the thing later, but for now I cant disassemble it (I work with my computer). Plus, it is probably high time to move to SATA anyway.

Pioneer drives are cosidered the best for 360 burning.

I use an LG-GH22N30, It's SATA, have yet to have a single coaster with it, but I think the DVD burning speeds a bit outdated today.

This is true. Back in the day some burners couldn't set the book type, so a custom layer break could not be used. This is needed so they work on the 360. Most if not all allow this now, but I would still go with a Pioneer.

I have an LG GH22NS and use the cheapest media. No problems at all. Works perferct!

Its no doubt difference in the media, but the price doesn't really matter. BenQ/Moser Baer works great

in older xbox360 models with those crappy DVD-drives (Hitachi, Samsung) this "quality of the media is important" i would say its true, but now with BenQ and Liteon you can burn on any double sided dvd and they will read it

I wouldn't buy a new Pioneer that's for sure. Pioneers are going down hill. Maybe the Pioneer 205BKS Bluray burner for $184. Otherwise I will steer clear of Pioneer. They are using the generic Mediatek chipset. This can make reading a factory pressed disc take up to a minute, uhhggg! If you can find an DVR-217 or older, that's the way to go for Pioneer. Also you can tell by the price. Anything down in the $20-$30 range will be crap. The Plextor PX-880SA SATA burner is very good. But the number 1 thing you have to worry about is the media you use to burn your images. I usually use Verbatim and they are the best. Verbatim makes it really easy for your X360 to read the disc. Also, if you use cheap media (Ritek DL) like I do from time to time it can make it harder for your X360 to read the disc which can cause drive laser burnout over time. If I use cheap media for X360 game I will install that game to the X360 so it doesn't have to read it after it's installed. Once I beat or am sick of the game I just delete it and move on.

Untill my Xbox gave the RROD, I used an old Sata NEC burner and Arita DVD's (cheapest I could find). Worked fine.

I'm using an NEC as well I believe. Can't fault it. Generally, I use Verbs and never get coasters.
I've an LG BR Writer in my laptop. Its rather shockingly bad, doesn't like anything above single layer disks.
