Ok I have a problem here,
Im using the SPDIF output in Windows 7 and while XP sent a constant Signal to my receiver 7 doesnt. I really love my receiver but it needs about a second to switch to the right input signal (DD DTS PL and so on) and if theres no signal it switches back to stereo. So every time a sound is played i only hear the ending and I need some kind of dummy signal or better a setting in Win 7 to bypass this and always send a signal. I couldnt find any solutions on google so Im turning to you Wink
any Ideas?

Are you sure this isn't up to the driver? What sound card/onboard do you have? Perhaps you should check forums specific to that brand of sound devices, maybe there are some workarounds. Smile

Of course I already tried different drivers (the ones that came with the asus board, drivers from the asus site, drivers from the via site and even tried to get realtek drivers to work Wink ) its a via chip on an M4A Asus board.

Im almost 100% sure that its a problem with the operating system, win 7 just handles spdif differently it seems. Im just searching for a workaround. Something that would play a dummy signal would already be enough..

A dummy signal does not seem like a possible solution because if you play a coded dummy signal (like AC3 or DTS) in background you can not use Windows' mixer to "add" your actual coded sound to it. This would just result in a corrupt AC3/DTS stream.

An analog signal would be enough just something that the optical cable doest stop lighting up Wink so the receiver get a constant signal no matter what.

I can watch movies and such perfectly fine because they have a constant signal

Do I understand the problem correctly: you want to play short AC3/DTS sounds but your reciever needs too long to switch to the needed decoder so you only hear the end of these coded sounds, right?

I don't think that it is a specific SPDIF problem, as the same happened to me with win7.

On win XP I had a constant noise in the background whenever I used my headphones, which was especially annoying when there was no sound at that moment. With win7 everything is nice and I can hear that noise only when a sound is played but it's not worth mentioning.

But then I switched to the official drivers for my soundcard and I had that noise all the time again, just like it was with XP. So I switched back to the standard win 7 driver Smile

@ punpaction
yeah i think this is a general win 7 problem because win 7 handles audio differently but i hoped there would be a workaround

@me7 no my receiver needs a second no matter which signal (even stereo) so even with normal windows sounds i only hear the end of em. with win xp i didnt have that problem = constant signal to amp

@Frant
im using spdif so the soundcard does nothing all processing goes on in my receiver i dont want to buy an expensive soundcard which basically is a better audio cable...

Well you could start winamp with your computer and let it play a soundfile with no noise and let it repeat over and over again Laughing

Or you could just try another driver Wink
