|
 |
Now you pick up a book and you see a to be continued or by even picking up a damn comic book, the story arc would have finished and yet a to be continued. Damn it its become so annoying that 90% of all titles in gaming, comics, movies etc have parts and only around 30-40% of these can be enjoyed without reading/going through all the parts. Hell its damn annoying to enjoy anything without waiting for all the damn parts to be released so that it can be read in one go or at my own pace.
WAH
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Heh, even The Lord of The Rings spanned three volumes (six books!), so "parts" doesn't necessarily mean bad. It all depends on the quality of the story.

Also a really great way to see if people like it, if there could be improvements etc.

If they stand to make more money from it, of course they will leave it open ended.
I much prefer things, like you said, make 1, leave it at that. That's not to say there aren't some awesome trilogies out there. The Alien films are a good example of a continued story.

Alien films were all stand-alone films with only characters that were common. True you had to watch the previous one's to fully understand the history and the timeline.
But if you complain about LoTR, that's totally justified. Perfect of example of a writer coming up with one story and then throwing in a lot of sub-plots or circuitious arcs as a form of filler.

Well the only annoying part is waiting for the next installment. I'm going to make a new year resolution now: Only watch TV show/animes/read manga/read novels which has fully aired/ been fully scanlated/all books are out in the market.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

No, has nothing to do with fanboism. Had you actually read it, you'd know.

I read LotR trilogy and watched all movies. Can't see what's so great about it.
Now I sure admire Tolkien for creating races like elves, but I just didn't like it. At all.

I also found LOTR boring. I've tried reading it several times... but I always give up. It just doesn't 'suck' me in.

Perhaps the Elven names confused them. It's OK.
