I went to the national bank to transfer a little bit of Euros to the bank in Europe.
- Does it possible ?
- Sure, it is very simple procedure
- Let's do it then

* I hand over transfer details to the operator *

- Why is everything in English ?
- WTF ! It's international bank transfer, it's supposed to be in English !!!
- But how am I supposed to enter the details - country, city, street and account holder isn't in Russian ?

* WTF ! WTF ! WTF ! every cell of my body, face palms the operator *

- Ok, I will contact administrator

*Operator goes to the administrator and she teaches her how to change input locale on a keyboard. Returns and start entering data*

- Well, you know, there is going to be another problem
- Again ? What now ?
- We can only transfer amounts what are a multiple of 5 and commission will be with euro cents, we don't accept cents
- ???
- We can solve this, if you open an account in euro currency with us, then we could do the transfer from your account
- Fine... do it.

*I open an account, deposit money in it and operator tells me that money have been transfered to the transitional account and now they need to form a request to transfer the money. One hour comes to an end... *

- Request ?
- Yes, it's for the security control service
- What for ?
- Well, they need to check that you not sponsoring a terrorists organizations

* That's it my jaw drops... I stand speechless with stupid grinning expression on my face and shout inside my head FOR GOD SAKE, WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE SHIT, I am only transferring less than 150 euros. How can I support them, if only to buy them peanuts *

- Please excuse me, but you really know what are you doing ? Maybe we should drop it and I will go the central office ?
- Don't worry everything will be fine, just as I have said it's very simple procedure and besides as we already transferred the money to transitional account, so there is no way to go back at the moment.

*Said that, she starts to enter data for request form*

- I am sorry, but there is another problem. The program we use to fill request forms, only allows Russian text. We have no choice but to fill it manually, it would take some time

* I am at deep prostration state of mind, so I just smile back and nod in acknowledge. Another 30 minutes passes by... *

- That's it we are done

* Hands me all the papers *

So called simple procedure took 1.5 hours. And I have absolute no confidence that my money would reach destination bank Sad

On a bright side, grocery store near the bank had two of my most favorite UK beers, which I have been enjoying while writing all this Smile
St. Peter's Golden Ale and Wells Bowman Stout

Western Union? For 150€(up to 500€) you would pay max~25 euros. And I think 1.5 hours are worth it lol.

Western Union is a rip off. Paypal would've worked easily.

The transfer was person to company, I payed my sis membership renewal fees, as company's processing agency didn't accept her credit cards, cause their system isn't able to process cards that require security code (CVV/CVC). But major banks in Russia require such code, so the only viable option at that time seemed to be a bank transfer.

Although, now after going thru messy transfer procedure, I think we should have tried my virtual card, it still has security code, but for some companies they make an exception ala amazon.com . Who knows maybe it would have worked

People still go to banks in person? The only times I step into a bank is opening/closing accounts.
