Pretty disgusting.
"I love my country to death blah blah" that's a good brainwashed little soldier.

Old men sending young men to die. Sickening.

I find it interesting that no photo's of punishment are seen during basic. Either they were soft on them because of the reporters or they just didn't share them. Which leads me to believe this is more of a advertisement for the army. Even more so because it very little talks about his deployment of Iraq and doesn't have him really share any thoughts or events.
I have little doubt that this was the idea of the Army who found a recruit willing to do it.

I can tell you from first hand experience that this is not a accurate look on the life in the military everything from basic to deployment to Iraq.

you might be completely right there
the guy screws up a little but that will be forgiven (a second chance right?)
and when he is done with his tour he commits with a quite nice looking girl, sure
it looks more like propaganda material to enlist more dummies

My favorite part of the whole thing:
“I think one of my biggest problems is I still feel like just a number,” Ian says. “That’s one thing I’ve always thought of myself as: just a number in the Army. That’s all I ever was.”

welcome to the army son! Very Happy

napoleon said it best ""A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon". give a man a false sense of accomplishment, and he will thank the country that allowed him to almost die to get that ribbon.

I myself, cant see the desire to be blindly loyal to whatever piece of land sticking out of the ocean you happen to plop out onto when you leave your moms womb.

applying for a job that you know you cant leave, they treat you like shit, and you might possibly die while working...isn't the best job option in my opinion. think up to 90% of the "I love my country!!" types love the country because they was raised and taught to love it.

-Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. -G. Michael Hopf
