First PC I haven't built since 1993 ugh.

Got a really good deal on a refurb Gateway FX6800-01E

Hooked it up i run it to my reciever which goes to my tv as my monitor. Everything is working great, i go to sleep last night with the pc on, and it hibernates. I go to play cod:mw 2 this am and it won't get the display to come on. "Unsupported signal" reported from the tv. This isn't uncommon for me to get, it normally happens if i screw up the Turn on order. If i turn on my receiver then my tv it does that on my old pc everytime. I'm thinking no big deal, i goto reset the computer, however there isn't a reset switch. So i power it down, i notice though that powering it down is only putting it back into hibernate mode, which isn't fixing the issue, i need it to reboot and redetect the monitor. I give up and just unlpug the pc while it's hibernating, plug it back in same thing. I give up and figure my display is the issue. I hook up a old crt same thing. I can't get it out of hibernate mode and do a clean boot, also the monitor is outputting nothing.

At this point i'm getting frustrated and start searching for similar problems. Somebody claimed taking the memory out and putting it back in fixed it for them each time, I couldn't see how that could possibly help because when the pc is unplugged the contents of the ram is emptied. But i wanted to take a look at the mobo so i figured what the hell. Took out the ram and obviously that did nothing. So i decide to step it up, i mean it can try to restore the session if a HD isn't hooked up. I unplug the sata power & plug on the hd. Exact same thing, I take out the video card and reseat it same thing. Clear cmos with jumper, (i'm assuming it was the clear cmos, moved jumper from pins 1 & 2 to 2 & 3 for a bit then switched back. Same thing.

Is there anyway it's still holding onto the hibernate mode somehow? Does the i7 have some special power saving stuff? Also, the only reason i think this still pretains to hibernate is because when the power is connected pressing any key causes the computer to turn on.

Even when the hd isn't connected. I'm super confused. I thought maybe it was a feature of the newer keyboard so i hooked up my super old cheapo keyboard and it did the same thing. I dunno maybe that is a feature of the newer intel mobo's and i'm just teh noob. Although, it seems to me like it's still hibernating somehow. Anybody ever have similar issue?

I'm going to swap out the power supply if i can't figure anything else out. Although, It doesn't seem like that's the culprit.

PLEASE HELP ! SO BUMMED, spent 4 hrs installing cod and updating windows, then went to sleep never even got to play. I would just send it back to tiger direct but they don't take the machines back.... SUCKS. Thanks in advance guys!

Well. After an entire weekend spent on this POS i'm giving up and trying to rma with the refurb company. Wish me luck.

I ended up pulling the battery which fixed it automatically trying to boot up or powering on from ps2 activity. It's pretty odd to me that using the clr_cmos jumper didn't fix that, but after this weekend not much surprises me with this thing. I can't get it to post or output video. I swapped the powersupply and videocard no change. I'm going to swap the ram once i have a triple channel set to put in there, fairly certain it won't make a diff at this point. Ugh, waste of a weekend.

I would have guessed that the receiver was mucking it up but since you already tried it directly with a crt it's ruled out. It's a long shot but this wasn't some board with on-board video which they tacked a graphics card onto but forgot to disable the on-board crap in the bios?

Thanks for the suggestion but no onboard video with this one. It's not a widespread problem it appears to just be my machine. Who knows it's probably something dumb like since it was on all night one of the traces that was screwed up on the mobo separated or maybe the board expanded from the heat and there is a bit of solder touching the case now. Either way, I've gone above and beyond what should need to be done with a new pre-built pc.
