So I have this 2x1024 set of OCZ memory in my computer now, I'm getting 2 more but OCZ doens't have those same sticks anymore where im ordering from, so if I get lets say a set from kingston it's obviously going to have different timings...

what happens to overall timings? do they all clock the same as each other or do they retain whatever they come with?

Timings and Speed will always attempt to match the SLOWEST memory in the set Smile

Yeah, different timings mean the "lowest common denominator"

You should consider buying some OCZ or GSkill 2x2gb sticks and do something else with your old ones.

If you're going to be paying decent money, my vote goes for either G.Skill (any) or OCZ Reaper or OCZ Platinum. Fantastic RAM sets, all three. Don't waste your money on overpriced, underpowered, trash from Corsair.

The only decent hardware Corsair make these days are PSUs - and they truly are awesome.

You'll get better performance with 2x2gb instead of 4x1gb. I don't know how it is these days but older motherboards lowered the speed of the RAM when using four memory modules. The memory controller had a harder time checking for errors etc and therefor often lowered from 400Mhz to 333Mhz for example.

Not sure if that applies to todays hardware though. I am sure that two sticks will perform better then four sticks anyway.

Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!
