a quote from esrb about the reasons for giving it that rating:
Quote:
... Players can also perform an assortment of over-the-top finishing moves – referred to in the game as "torture attacks" – on the creatures: impalement with an iron maiden; decapitation with a guillotine; dismemberment with a chainsaw; and summoning a demon that bites, then rips characters apart. During the course of the game, some female characters perform suggestive taunts and poses, including opening their legs or gyrating their hips. Some of the more provocative outfits are shed during battle, resulting in brief depictions of buttocks and breasts. The camera occasionally pans close-up on breasts as they are jiggling. Strong profanity (e.g., "f*ck," sh*t," and "a*shole") can be heard throughout the dialogue.
Uh who cares about one button mode, they just want more casual people to buy this game, since this is a DMC like game and they are kinda niche titles (insane DMC3 difficulty anyone?).
I actually can't wait for this game, looks epic.

what's the next excuse, the handicapped? are they brain-dead too?
maybe they're afraid of being too 'hardcore' , after godhand (<3) not raking as much cash as it deserved

yeah, they want to get the casuals into this, but the one button mode is still a bit too much, dontcha think? i mean adding a very easy mode is one thing, with enemies being pushovers, etc, but making the game practically play itself is a whole different story.
well, there are hardcore games on the NES, so less buttons doesn't necessarily mean accessible to morons
bah, the video could have been an ironic comment on the current trend in gaming (as ixigia said, pop, ac, the new splinter cell, etc). too bad it's not
Since when do ratings matter? How many kids get their hands on games that they shouldn't? GTA IV, Gears? The rating is there because it's legally required. Kids will manage to get their hands on these game if they really want to.
The point is that the mode is optional. I wouldn't care if they even offered a mode where you can finish the game with one hand while reading a book, as long as it's not forced upon you. Games have had these options for ages. Even hardcore games like Baldur's Gate 2 had options doubling your hitpoints while halving the enemies, making the game as easy as 1-2-3. If its optional, does it really matter?
On another note, I don't see anyone bitching about the new Batman game where you can execute unlimited combos on every mode using A SINGLE BUTTON! Heck, the only way to fight is with one button... But everyone likes that game, while hating this one for an optional mode...
Unlike those games this one does look like it's a visually arresting experience. Whether that's enough on its own, I don't know, but I don't see why games should have to conform to some set standard. One of the things I miss of late in gaming is real variety - so sure, why the hell not have a game like this?
*of course if this is just some setting in a game, provided as an afterthought for people to experiment with; I don't see the problem at all...
Well this removes the whole concept of actually playing a video game. Yes it is very easy but the one button idea is just stupid. Atleast put some trigger or thumbstick play in it. I say rather watch a movie because that it is when the game is played solely with one button...
I wonder...what will heppen to the players when they finish a scene? They would have to move to the next one. I bet they'll rant how overly complex the game is.
/sarcasm
Seriously: if they put some decent puzzles in the game (highly unlikely) then in this super easy mode, we can regard the fights as half-interactive cutscenes.
They're realsing the game with their own pad, it's called the "BANG YOUR HEAD AT THIS BIG SHINY RED BUTTON" and it will sell for a mere 29.95$ and it'll hit the stores next month.

I can agree with the optional thinking.
But i must say that the thing you say about Batman is that i did find the one button combos brain-dead and boring. Man if that game could have had a Tekken or SF kind of combat, it would have been much better!
I don't think to much about this specific video/game, but its not far fetched to what games are turning into, (barely) interactive movies, kinda revolting imo.
