|

Hi all,
I recently started working on a game for Facebook - Something similar to 'Who has the biggest Brain', 'Geo Challenge', 'Word Challenge' and etc...
The game should have all of these nice animations, and shouldn't be too heavy.
So at first I started developing it in Flash, but I found out that programming in Flash is not that comfortable. I've been bursting my head for several days, trying to do simple things that would have taken me minutes in other languages such as C#. (Things like browsing for a file, and viewing it on the page).
So I've been talking to some friends about it, and they suggested that maybe I should try out Silverlight. Now as far as I understand, Silverlight is pretty much free (on the contrary to Flash that costs $700), and I'm much more familiar with .NET programming environment. However, I think that drawing and the animation part will be a lot less comfortable than in Flash. (Though I only tried using Expression Blend for a few minutes)
So I've been wondering if maybe one of you guys had some experience with these platforms, and maybe could give me some useful advices.
Thanks!

From my personal experience being a Flash Developer, I would say flash all the way. But considering you are more comfortable in a .NET environment this might be a way to go for you.
A couple of problems I forsee are:
1) possibly that facebook doesnt support (facebook has its own html markup called FBHTML) silverlight as of yet, this might have changed recently, but Im not that up to speed.
2) there are a lot less online tutorials for Silverlight because it is relatively new, whereas flash has a multitude of content out there readily available.
In summary, I love and loathe flash, and I work with it everyday, ActionScript 3 has brought flash more inline with standard OOP techniques and has opened up huge possibilities as to what flash can do. Yet Silverlight has received wide saturation (almost on par with flash) relatively quickly, thanks in no small part to Mr. Obama's inauguration speech.
They both have up-sides and down-sides... but I say, because of the wide variety of content and tutorials on Flash, that is the way id go, but im biased.
