Had my first BSOD *ever* in Windows 7 today.

Why on earth did I go back to Nvidia, their drivers where absolute shit back when Vista first came out, obviously things have improved since then but I'm just missing my old but reliable Sapphire 4870 Sad

Yeah i like nvidia, but i can not complain so far with this 4870.. ive never seen drivers on nvidia give the diff in frames in a game like this set has for me... 77 normal fps on high everything on 9.7 cats, sometimes around the 80 81 fps depending on where u are and looking, and then i change to 9.8's and im not dropping below 90 fps with it mostly sitting aroun 97 98 fps lol awesome Very Happy

Wish I could share in the joy in the fps improvement department, the Catalyst drivers have come on leaps and bounds of late Smile

Don't get me wrong though, this 275 is a beast of a card for the price but I'm just wary when I wake up and waken the computer from sleep, am I going to get hit with another BSOD Rolling Eyes

A so called "hotfix" for a few specific titles, might help in other games as well.

*click* reading

wtf hotfix lol,,

its a whole new driver version install no? 99mb? not even the quackcon release was this size .... hmmm wtf Very Happy

The main sites exe file for whole package is 62.9mb as a wrapped exe type.. so those few fixes are 30mb? lol wtf...

A hotfix to me is something that applies to an already installed driver/utility etc game .. so whats the deal with this, complete reinstall of driver set ?

Note! This driver is provided as is and is not supported by AMD. It has not completed full AMD testing, and is only recommended for users experiencing the particular issue described above.

so now they are not even going to back up theyre own software Very Happy nice...

this part concerns me if its really only a ghostbusters issue..,

"No Anti-Aliasing support for Ghostbusters"

now weve all seen some funny shit with AA in games at times, what bothers me is wether this "fix for GB" might work for more games that might have issues..

Such a lack of feedback its silly.. was it a profile for GB change only? or was it a more driver level based change? see what im getting at ?

For Ghostbusters it'll allow you to force AA as with several other UE3 titles, would work before by renaming the games EXE to for example Bioshock or UT3 but now it's not needed anymore.

For the filesize it's called a hotfix but it's a complete package with both 32 and 64 bit drivers together along with Hydravision and Avivo (Both 32 and 64 bit versions.) so it's a bit bigger. (Albeit a full Catalyst driver package, usually leaked beta versions, with motherboard drivers for AMD cards can reach 120 MB or so.)

For the rest it updates the driver to 8.641 (From the previous 8.640) and the driver is a bit newer so it might contain more fixes and improvements (As usual for both NVIDIA and ATI display drivers, mostly only list the main things, actually this is basically a stable and more tested beta of the 9.9 drivers to be clear, those might end up as version 8.642 or something along with a full list of changes - although still only for major titles and programs and not every little change - as usual.)

Works great for me, not many problems at all, haven't tested DX10 Anno yet but DX9 is more than playable without looking that different so that's fine.
(Divinity 2 could do with a profile though RE5 is atleast covered now.)
