I have a problem here with my cpu;
pc powers up, mobo led is on, all the fans are spinning, dvd/hdd are powered, but nothing else happens.. my monitor isnt getting signal, pc doesent make any noise at all, and i know from the lack of sound that its not loading bios screen or anything..

First i thought it must be the vga card but i found that i can get my pc working again by pushing the CPU fan.

So after that, i cleaned the cpu, applied new thermal paste, replaced the fan with a new one and then tried various mounting positions for the heatsink; but no matter how i mount it, pc only starts properly when i manually push the cooler over and over until i find this "magical starting position"..

! and after it starts, if i (accidentally) touch my pc case a little harder, pc freezes and i have to shut it down and press on that cooler again until it decides to start .....

my apologies for poor english .... HELP !

Sounds like the cpu is not fastened correctly to mobo. Take it out of mobo and make sure the mobo contacts are clean and its fastened down properly.

cpus don't really die that much
it's almost always something else that gives
motherboard usually

does sound like the cpu isn't aligned properly
or your motherboard is causing a short with the case
do you have the insulation rings under the motherboard screws, between that and the case?

Yep i do, mobo is properly mounted, it doesent touch the case. But i'm not sure what you mean with "aligned properly" or "fastened correctly" because the cpu seems to fit perfectly into the socket.. AND that was the first time i've ever touched a CPU (maybe this is where i'm missing something?)

I've also tried replacing my cpu for a couple of hours and i've had no problems with the new one .. And before mounting back my old one i've checked it for dust or anything suspicious and couldnt see anything..
I guess i'm gonna have to triple check that alignment until i figure out what exactly is wrong with it..

If you press and it works you probably have a broken motherboard, something like flexing it possibly caused one of the printed circuits to break. When you press on the CPU you're bending the motherboard so the two ends get connected again.

Well this thingie seems to happen once a month or so but this time it took me a whole day to get it starting, and of course all i did was unmount/mount stuff..
All seems fine now, hope it lasts..
