Harro,
Years ago I went ahead and bought a westinghouse 37" TV for primary display and recently it's been starting to give in a little bit. I've been considering buying a new TV/Monitor and I think after doing a bit of research, the LG 42LH90 is my choice.

Just looking for some comments

Hai,

Be careful with the LGs, the apply way too much filtering on inputs that are not VGA. Even with sharpness set to 0, you will still notice ugly ringing and other leftovers from post-processing, which might be acceptable for movies (for me, they aren't under any circumstances), but for monitor use, it is distracting. Either use a VGA cable (to which the TV doesn't apply post-processing; you can't choose "enable/disable post-processing"), or take the PC to the store and make sure you can live with the post-processing leftovers. Smile

isnt 42" a bit big for computing stuff... I use a 32" samsung and I wouldnt wanna go any bigger. otherwise it would become a pixelfest.

yeah tvs have bigger pixel size than monitors, also the the resolution 1920x1080 (for hd) aint justifying the physical size of 42" so most likely all the normal things would be pixel fest

yes

Well I've been using a 37" for a while, size isn't an issue in terms of pixel fests. I'm set on going with the big screen

Perhaps I should go with one of the Samsungs, they all have fantastic reviews - anyone perhaps suggest a 37"-42" solution?

LN40B750

I hate Cnet but it had a good layout of specs for TVs. Anyway,

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-ln52b750/4505-6482_7-33490659.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody

Seems like a very good TV.

Well its well known in the TV community that the overall best picture quality is with a Plasma TV tho they are not recommended as a TV monitor due to retention and low resolution.

dunno rly, i tried to watch some sd on plasma for couple of hours and had some massive eye tearing afterwards

sd looks good on none glossy lcd so i don't see the point of plasma's, they weight more, they cost more and in the summer they produce more heat than lcd's, plus they consume more power

So I'm sold on not getting the Samsung LNB750 or 650 series because they have the gloss. I hate gloss.

The LG doesn't have gloss though... in the reviews I've read of it, it seems quite good.

Does anyone else have any suggestions? Actual models.

LN40B630 looks like my best bet. The 650 isn't much different from the 750 I was reading and the 630 is the same panel more or less just less features and the 630 is the only one with a matte finish actually - I hate glossy screens. Worst shit ever.
