So, i'm getting a new monitor soon.

I've set my eye on
http://www.evomag.ro/MONITOARE-Monitoare-LCD/Acer-Monitor-LCD-23-X233HB.html

It's pretty cheap, pretty big, BUT it has no DVI. Only VGA.

How much will that affect me? Have to say my video card, a 9600GSO, is currently outfitted with a DVI-VGA adapter, cause my old CRT monitor doesn't have DVI either.

Am i looking at large quality loss here?

._.

It's a pretty horrible monitor. Quick google around the web shows that it has huge input lag and that factory colours are way off Smile

I wouldn't get it

DVI is a must otherwise the LCD will scale everything to is native resolution. Picture quality is also better with DVI. Although you will not see it always but VGA signal is noisy especially on light/dark grey pattern etc. Dont be mean with that because you have to look into it every day.

I picked up an LG w2243t-pf for $150 Canadian including taxes and I'm quite happy with it. There's some backlight bleeding but the colors are good and there's no dead pixels either. For $150 I really have nothing to complain about. If you're in the super cheap market check it out.

He did not ask which monitor to get, he asked about the disadvantage of VGA compared to DVI. But its commonly known that a few readers of this forum actually do not read at all but scan posts for buzzwords that triggers a fanboy/troll/bitching automatism in their brain. Its sad but if you know what to expect you can take it with a smile and be happy about the imaginary popup above your head that says "Your ignoring skill has raised by +1" Wink

If I hadn't tried both I would probably say DVI, but I had tried and I can say: Definitely DVI!!
My sammy is plugged in my comp via DVI and everything is fine. But when I plugged my sisters laptop via VGA I could notice flickering (and her on board gfx is better than my non on board gfx Sad ). I would plug it into HDMI, but my monitor doesn't have one Sad

Except in the last 2 years the majority of Samsung's monitors are shit. Also, LG monitors with a P(F) suffix have Philips panels in them, which are shit.

www.digitalversus.com has a nice product face-off, as well as a ton of reviews and color calibration profiles if you need one.

VGA is analogue, DVI is digital, an LCD monitor is digital..

This means that you digital graphics card is converting digital data to analogue data (loss in translation), sends it through a cable to the monitor which is then converting the analogue data to digital again (more loss in translation plus signal degradation effects).

In this day and age it's a mystery why crappy VGA is still around.

lolrage.. :\ Thanks for the responses tho.

Well, just after posting this i ran into
http://www.evomag.ro/MONITOARE-Monitoare-LCD/Acer-Monitor-LCD-23-V233HAbd-47563.html

This one has DVI, at the same price. So i think i'm gonna go with this one.

However, pwerelds, where'd you see it has input lag and the colors are off? I did the exact same google search and found opposite results.. ._.

Misread the name, thought it was a 233W so I looked up the 243W (which would be the 24" brother). Not sure about either of the monitors you linked, because there is literally not a single review on any monitor from those series from Acer.

Any reviews you've seen must've been user reviews, I at least can't find any proper reviews Smile

I recently bought this one for +/- 180 €:
http://www.lge.com/ca_en/computer-products/monitors/LG-lcd-monitor-W2453V-PF.jsp

This is not about e-penis but I really love it, only con are the touch sensitive buttons to adjust video source or other things.
It is hard to adjust this in the dark Smile

Anyone recommending a brand should not be taken seriously. Every brand has amazing, mediocre, and horrible models. LG's Wxx53v's are amazing for example, a lot of models in Viewsonic's VX range, Dell's -WFP monitors..

Don't buy based on brand name, always look up some reviews. Especially for gaming, where you want little input lag and good colours/contrast Smile

@Nui: no idea

xTerro you also may want to look at LED monitors, power consumption of those is lower than that of LCD's

Yea i got the one with DVI, V233habd. It's simply HUGE.

My sound system is pretty meh, but i'm not planning any weddings anytime soon. There's another speaker, you just cant see it in the pic. The one on the left is actually my Subwoofer. =D
