I've been playing Empire: Total War lately - and with the 186.18 driver set there is noticeable, albeit random, flickering on the campaign map. Annoying, but not bad enough to warrant a roll back. After about 2 hours though, the artifacts got bad enough to warrant restarting the game.

So, my question, can artifacts related solely to driver issues with a particular game cause permanent damage to the video card? I ask because this GTX 285 is brand new, would be a shame to fuck it up already. The card is stock clocked and runs at 50c idle, 80c stressed.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

if temp of your gfx card does not dramatically increase when those artifacts show up then it's just a driver glitch, nothing to worry about
