i see no reason for it to have any such restrictions
it's supposed to be self contained software that downloads stuff from sites when asked - at most it could perhaps update a web service database from the author's website, but there's no reason for that not being anonymous either
sharing info with friends would surely require a shared database, but there's no reason not to make it optional
