Hi, just need something clearing up please. What is the standard warranty term in Europe, is it 2 years or 3 years and is it for non accidental damage only (things like software failures etc)

My Friend's 80Gb ipod classic broke, all it is showing is a Red X on the screen, he's tried resetting it and tried to follow the instructions on the web site without any luck.

Thanks

If I am not mistaken, Apple has 1 year limited world wide guarantee. But that can be extended by buying Apple Care plans.

Before buying a new iPod, your friend should just visit one of the geniuses at genius bar in one of the Apple stores chances are that they would simple hand him over a new iPod. There a lot of info like that on forums.

A little story, my sis while studying at Japan language at Japan, bought a MacBook with student discount. Later she decided, to wash the keys and touchpad with umm... water and soap while the comp was still on Laughing Half of the keys and touchpad died near instantly, sis got depressive and incidentally dropped MacBook from a table(around 1m high), that fall bended one of display's hinges. It was very visible damage.

So, she called support and said that her MacBook suddenly stopped to work and she really need it for her studies at Uni. Support representative dispatched free courier to pickup damaged MacBook and in around 5 days later my sis received a free package back.

Thinking that it was too soon, she decided that Apple just send her broken MacBook back. To her surprise she discovered a shiny new MacBook Very Happy along with a service job report that stated Apple replaced the following components: case, motherboard, display, keyboard, touchpad and hdd. HDD is directly under the touchpad, so I guess it didn't like the soap and water as well Laughing

With fear of sounding sexist I'm just gonna say "Only a woman would do something like that."
