I have posted this on the VirtualDub forums and I'm getting absolutely no help at all, will it be any different here I wonder, maybe if someone here actually has experience with this software...

So here is the problem:

I have 2 video files - one I am using the video and I am using the audio from the other file...

The audio is about 5 seconds ahead of the video - and I can't seem to find how to delay the audio to match the video. I am trying Audio > Interleaving... and changing the default 500ms of audio before video starts to 5500 - then I start watching the video again and it doesn't seem my changes are taking effect or I'm doing something wrong. Do I have to re-encode the file to notice the changes or am I just being a newb here? (yes of course)

Okay I'm getting somewhere - I'm setting the Delay audio track by -5125ms - and I'm making sure the rest of the audio matches up but the longer I watch it the more it seems out of sync. So I have sync'd up the beginning but then the rest is not matching up - can someone clue me in on what I'm doing wrong - thanks...

Upon opening the avi in VirtualDub I am greeted with the following message:

[!] AVI: Variable bitrate (VBR) audio detected. VBR audio in AVI is
non-standard and you may encounter sync errors up to 74801ms when
attempting to extract WAV files or playing in some players. If this is a
problem, use Full Processing mode is recommended to decompress or
recompress the audio. (This warning can be disabled in Options,
Preferences, AVI. bitrate: 128.8 ± 17.1 kbps)

So can someone enlighten me on the best way to merge the variable bit audio with the video, thanks in advance...

Any helpful input please post!

Let me present a simpler alternative - MKVtoolnix. Use mmg.exe in that to do exactly what you need - take the video from first file and the audio from the second, and you can specify a delay. The only possible downside would be it will make an MKV file and not an AVI.

Ok well I think the whole problem is the variable bit rate audio - but I'll give it a shot...

Yes, virtualdub does not play well with variable bitrate audio. Smile

Alright well they merged just fine - not before freezing Windows 7 and forcing me to hit the reset button, but the video is delayed like 5-7 seconds behind the audio and I don't see any options to rectify this problem in mkvmerge...

You must select the audio stream first, and then modify the delay.

Well I got it nearly a half a second away from syncing up the beginning but the rest is terribly off and it just seems to get worse and worse - the variable bit audio is doing me head in...

Do something for me real quick, check the framerate of each or your videos. I have a feeling one has a 23.976 framerate, while the other one has 25.

Obviously want to keep the higher bit-rate audio and the video from the one on the right...

And where does the 3m difference come from? Credits? Because if they have the same framerate, it should be pretty easy.
