Recently bought this tv, and today i bought a dvi-hdmi cable to watch movies in HD format .
All works perfectly except the fact that i cant hear the sound in my tv's speakers but in the pc's speakers .

Any way of making the tv speakers sound ?

How do you connect the PC to the TV? DVI to HDMI? If so you won't have audio over HDMI unless you have one of the latest ATI Radeons. You will need to connect the audio to the TV with different means.

Yep, DVI doesn't normally carry audio. ATI has their own custom made DVI (and DVI to HDMI converter), which uses the dual link interface bandwidth to carry the audio on).

Just take notice that splitting audio from video (like in this case, video over HDMI, audio over something else) can cause slight lag between the two components, and if you are sensitive to such things, like I am, you will need a receiver to correct the lag (or if the TV can do it, great also, some TVs can).

The cable is not the problem. Any HDMI 1.3 can transfer 1080p video with audio. The problem is, your video card is not capable of sending the audio to the cable.

You can always buy a Mux-HD for 285$ (Laughing) to mux audio and video of multiple sources.

What are you going to do with the PC+HDTV combo? Only watch movies? If so, you could always get a cheap ATI 4830, and with Windows 7 you can have them both in the PC with drivers. That way, the monitor is connected to the powerful card for gaming, while TV is connected to the lesser card for movies/tv shows.

Also, speakers on LCD TVs are often very bad quality-wise, so unless you have some very cheap PC speakers, chances are they are already better than the ones on the HDTV, so you could use them for your audio. Lag could still occur, though.

b0se, as you want to use a tv speakers the sound will be stereo. So check wth your model it might have an analog or combo SPDIF&analog flexi-jack input port for one of the HDMI ports.

For example I have KDL46W4000 bravia and there is one such port for HDMI 2 port

There is no information in documentation on whatever port is SPDIF&analog flexi-jack or just an analog mini-jack. But I have tried a few minutes ago connecting an analog stereo source and it works Smile

you should probably take this opportunity to buy a decent stereo receiver and some surround speakers.

that way you can just run video to the TV and sound (5.1 via optical toslink) to the receiver. Any sync issues can be handled by the player/codecs you are using.

stereo sound from tv speakers = sucks

Why don't you buy HD 4670, and HDMI to HDMI cable (it's like 10$ it doesn't have to be expensive to be good).4670 is lik 70 bucks or so on newegg, and every review I've read about is says that it's great for HTPC - watching HD movies that is...

No, if you want to get sound with your current config you need a separate mini-jack to mini-jack cable. Its cheap a few $ cable. So, you connect DVI to HDMI cable into the HDMI 2 port and mini-jack to mini-jack cable to the audio port near the HDMI 2 port.

Also you will need to buy mini-jack to two mini-jacks splitter cable, connect it to your sound card front channel port and then connect one end to your speaker front and another end to the audio port of your tv.

Any brands or even no-name cables will do it. Just buy 3.5mm stereo mini-jack <=> 3.5mm stereo mini-jack. With connector like this ala two black bars

Basically you are trying to achieve something like this

The spitter is the trickiest one. You need stereo mini-jack => two stereo mini-jacks. There are also stereo mini-jack => Left mono mini-jack & right mono mini-jack cables available.

You are welcome. Also check the connector on your speaker side, as it could be RCA. In that case you will need stereo mini-jack <=> 2RCA cable.

most HDTVs are HDMI and nothing else. at least he's lucky that bravias have an HDMI + analogue option, my sammy doesn't (when I was in the same situation I ran optical to a receiver and video directly to tv).

a better question is why the hell would you settle for stereo sound of of piddly tv speakers when you have some nice 1.5mbps DTS 5.1 soundtracks instead Surprised

what is that, an s-video cable? no point even using an HDTV if you're going to use that.

Its not tricky at all.
Reading this thread is like trying to explain porn to a blind guy

Plug the DVI - HDMI cable into HDMI 2
Plug a cable from your sound card (or even headphone socket) into the audio IN socket on your TV next to HDMI socket 2

It really is that simple
