So, turned my comp on today and bang all the text was corrupted/unreadable at startup. Went into BIOS wierd horizantal lines and general graphical corruption on the screen.

Started Windows XP, the windows logo appeared to be corrupted and the whole screen had vertical lines on it. when windows actually loaded wierd graphical corruption flashed on the screen with nothing visible.

Started Vista was able to see the different things there but still graphical corruption with red vertical lines.

Changed monitors same thing. Tried the monitor on my laptop, monitor was fine.

So what gives ?

Reposition/reseat your gfx card, make sure the cables are alright. Also make sure it's getting enough power.

My Computer configuration has not changed a single bit in the past two years.
A 600W Thermaltake Toughpower is powering the comp.

It has a E6400 running which is not overclocked.

I will reseat the card and replug the cables, however im not sure that power is an issue.

You need to test another card on this PC, or this card on another PC Laughing

Damn, this is going to be difficult.

Don't have another card or a spare PC . . . . . . .

And all my friends are non-gamers with laptops.

One new development.
Windows XP I think does not boot when I have the video card plugged in.

When I take the vid card out, although the screen is black I can hear the start up music.
With the card plugged in I don't hear it after the corrupted Windows logo the screen just flickers with wierd artifacts on it.

Googling and numerous people with the same problem as me leads me to believe that the VRAM has fried. The card was running a bit hot and during my clean up today I discovered a significant buildup of dust on the outlet. (Its a dual slot card with one slot for the cooler and the outlet was blocked with dust).

Damn shouldve have checked sooner, atleast I can throw out my ancient 8800GTS and buy a GTX 260
