Ok, now this is just getting ridiculous. I know game modifications are getting bigger and better all the time - but when a MOD starts exceeding the disk cost for every game in the SERIES by a factor of N? I think it's time to stop with the "because we can!" attitude.

What am I yabbering about? FakeFactory's new update to the popular Cinematic Mod. V10 just got its first public release and Sweet Zombie Jesus.... 9.1GB download, 20GB install.

TWENTY FUCKING GIGAWATTS!

>_<

=Edit=

Ooops, just realised I didn't even include the links! Shit.

Info and screenies; http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,684336/Half-Life-2-vs-Cinematic-Mod-10-Visual-comparison/Practice/

Mate, I've no doubt got more HDD space then you'll ever have in your own measly POS you call a computer Rolling Eyes

WTB less troll.

My whole point was that it's a ridiculous amount of space required just for a mod. I don't even have any full games that are 20GB in size.

Ignore dazz the resident troll Laughing

And what's the deal with this cinematic mod ? I never can get it to work, I remember they don't even have a homepage ? I guess it's some shitty shit from pretentious "modders" that believe they can improve on HL2 by going overboard with new gfx resources, can't confirm though, heh.

I got more space than both of you combined, plus 500gb! Very Happy

So they don't have smaller versions available with smaller textures? It's nice that they offer something like that for enthusiasts, but there should be a smaller version also for the majority.

It's a great mod (loved 9.5) and massively increases the detail quality of the game - so I consider it worth the space cost, I was just exclaiming about the silly space requirements >_<

Yeah definitely gonna get it next time I play HL2 - even though it still looks pretty damn good for its age even without any additional mods or textures.

that doesn't mean there isn't any though huh? 20gb is really nothing these days, hell look at the size of hd movies.

There's only TWO games larger than 20GB. MS Flight Sim X + Addons and Conan MMO.

you know there's a difference between space required to install and the space that's actually used?

also is there a list of games and their install sizes?

Dead wrong, mate! I've just been playing it - and the mod is epic awesome. It's not just textures they've changed, but ingame models and lighting/shadowing too. With gorgeous results Very Happy

@Anthirs

Who the fuck is whining? Piss off back under your rock, ffs. I'm so incredibly sorry I said something negative to your idol, as he seems to be around here, but why the fuck should I put up with someone pissing on my thread? Take it to the bitching session if you've got a bug in your ass with me.

textures and lighting are quite incredible on the cinematic mod but on the other hand models only look plastic'ish to me instead of detailed (especially alyx) they don't look as realistic as the originals
and I don't know if you've noticed in the second page the last two textures (antlion and the one above it) are just the old textures + some abstract and a little bit transparent layer

You are whining - your pathetic thread is the exact kind of thread that belongs in the bitching season. It's not like it has anything else to do with pc apart from you complaining while bragging Smile

Why are you always so big mouthed towards everyone? Have you ever tried being nice rather than act like a donkeys arse? Smile

Btw, I dont like dazz and ive never done.

I respond in kind, your first post in here was a direct insult to me - and you expect me to smile and say thanks? No. Dazz's first post in here was an insult - and you expect me to smile and say thanks? Fuck off.

I'm "nice" to those that actually treat me with a bit of respect. I don't give a toss how long they've been here, old member or new, if people are civil to me; I'm civil to them.

=Edit=

I updated the first post with the links I forgot to include earlier Embarassed

No, it just uses an anti-external GIF instead, a blank one.

Alyx can be changed using the included "Character Pimper" - a GUI-based tool that lets you switch between textured models for NPCs. Like so;
