Hi,

My DVDR suddenly started to act weird.
Yesterday i wanted to burn Resident evil (360)
Everything went ok till burning progress reached 20/30%,
It dint fail but it wouldnt continue burning, write rate dropped to zero.
I left it for like 4 hours, but it wouldnt go on.
Second attempt it stopped at 51% with the same shit.
This time i took a look at imgburn log file, and noticed this.

"Device Removal Detected!"
 Spoiler:

Now i decided to try it for the 3rd time,
This time it wouldnt even start burning giving me this error,

;Failed to set L0 Data Zone Capacity!
;Reason: Power Calibration Area Error

After several retrys it (now) started burning, but again it stopped this time @ 10% with Power error.
This time i also noticed write rate wouldnt go past 0.5x so very slow!

W 15:40:08 Failed to Write Sectors 390016 - 390047 - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error
W 15:40:36 Failed to Write Sectors 390784 - 390815 - Reason: Power Calibration Area Error

So anybody know whats up? or is my burner dying.
Right now Ill try to burn some DVD+R to see if that works

Program used = Imgburn -> for burning 360 games.
Burner = ASUS DRW-1608P2S
Media = Memorex DVD+R DL

I don't know what the problem could be but the first thing i would have tried, would be re-installing the drivers and checking all the cables inside my case.

Another thing, are you using the latest firmware, and are the DL disks the same batch and brand as the disks you have burnt before successfully?

I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).

This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (almost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.

Please try the following solutions:

1. Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.

2. Try another brand of media.

3. Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.

4. Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.

5. Send the recorder in for service...because it dies slowly in no power cancer

Im using same brand disk as i did before. Memorex DVD+R DL
Using latest firmware etc, I even crossflashed my ASUS DRW-1608P2S to Pioneer 110 today.
Right now i dont got any other media to test,
I wasted my latest 3 mems just for this.

I've read that Spidey, everything is in order, Burner Solo @ sec master (before it was on slave), own power connector ...
the only thing i dint change is my IDE cable, but i doubt that 'll be the problem?
I just burned a DVD+R and it worked fine.

Reinstalling which drivers btw?

Note* that i dint change anything to my system!
Maybe some dust im my case, but thats it.

This thing cant be bricked, It works except for writing DL.

The drivers that windows installs for the drive after you hook it up. Go to the properties of the DVD drive, Driver tab and click uninstall. Reboot and windows will install the drive automatically.

I did anything i could but My burning is still trippin,
70% of the burning process it will only burn at 0.5x speed.

When i start burning it will start up slow at 0.5x the first 1-5%
After that it will speed up to 2,4x till about 12-15% where it goes to 0.5x again.
This is 80% of the time, the very rare 20%, it wont even speed up to 2.4.

1+ hour later when it reached the second layer, it will speed up again till the end.
Total burn time = 1 Hour 44 minutes.
The second layer always burns like it should.

The same happens with CD-R Disk very slow burning.
DVD+R works fine.

Burned disks do come out good though,
Dual layer mostly used for 360, they all work!
