The Tomorrow War

[*]Official web page: LINK
[*]Publisher: 1C
[*]Developer: Crioland
[*]Genre: Space Sim
[*]Release date: Q4 2007

[*]Story/Description:
Quote:

The 27th Century. There is peace on Earth. Mankind has discovered ways to travel outside of the solar system and planets thousands of light-years away have been colonized. The United Earth Empire is at a cross-roads as an old enemy decides the galaxy has room for only one Empire.

300 years ago one of the human colonies turned to Zoroastrianism, an ancient human religion. They formed a new nation called Konkordia and then increased the population through cloning their people. Konkordia has already conquered more than 30 planets and has become a powerful star nation. While The United Earth Empire has signed peace with Konkordia there was always tension in the relations between the two states.

The Tomorrow War is a space sim based on the trilogy of novels written by a famous Russian author, Alexander Zorich. These books are dedicated to the intergalactic war of two mighty empires. Along with the graduates of the military-space academy players will witness different stages of the conflict between United Earth Empire and Konkordia. Gamers will participate in local operations and in huge space battles, meet alien races and fight against unofficial military organizations and of course take part in the final battle.

The little I played of the russian version didn't give me much of an impression of the whole game. I did notice though that it was maybe more slow paced than a normal space sim,but I liked the fact that it has npc interaction. Smile

I'm sure we'll get more "indepth review" from vodka saying it's crap.Laughing

Perhaps translation took time and I guess it used Star-Force initially?

Combat only, or does it have trade too? Doesn't look good enough for just combat, but there's never enough space trade & combat sims.

OK a quick tip: Disable the autopilot BEFORE you get into asteroid field otherwise you'll die.

I would think that with technology this advanced their autopilots would turn off automaticaly if they were unable to navigate an asteroid field.... stupid me for making that assumption.

oh well let's play the whole level again from the beginning.

Combat only.

Seems to be missing in flight chatter, pic pops up,but no voices or even subtitles.
Love that you talk to ppl between missions(loved that in wing commander and all other space sims that had it after WC),but the voice acting could have been way better.
Gfx wise, pretty ok for a 3 year old game and the gameplay could have used some polishing.

Overall an ok game in my book(so far) and it's alt tab friendly(should be a requirement these days). Smile

edit. there is a quicksave which you can use during missions(Helps a lot if the game crashes)

"Game Features:

* Powerful game engine capable of modeling whole planetary systems. The engine allows continuous flights from space into the atmosphere of a planet and landing on any part of the planet"

This looks promising

Not far enough to tell, but I suspect no quests and maybe some ship upgrades as you do have money.
It's like an old school space sim where you go from mission to mission with an ability to fly and land on planets.

Just tried it. Whoa it's umm... interesting. Abysmal voice acting, but rather interesting gameplay mechanics. The space control feels, and plays, like Freelancer - but with none of the freeform gameplay, there doesn't seem to be any kind of trading or progression system whatsoever. It's like Starlancer more than anything; interact with NPCs for random info, take new missions, fly out to destroy xxxx then mission over, rinse and repeat.

It's very meh, at the moment. Oh and I had the lovely feature of the game quitting back to the main menu when I completed a mission. Lovely indeed.

I'm of two minds on whether to delete this or not :-\
