"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
I've used parts of Ex Machina as cues to discuss concepts such as freedom and intelligence with my students. They're always amazed at the movie. And tbh, so am I.
Maybe this can be good aswell.

The trailers are weirder than the show itself. So far ok but I was expecting mindfuck level of twists but I got something I can call now standard Garland. IMO overrated* but ok.
Dredd was only Garland writing and well it's pretty straight forward story. I really like Dredd but it wasn't mind blowing story telling. Ex Machina I disliked, I think I read and watched too much stuff to be surprised by it, Annihilation was ok and good on visual side.
This is good, I'm recommending this series based on the first 3 episodes, although their quality was 1 > 2 > 3..
But Garland's waifu's acting.... oh boy

I was really loving it at the start, the atmosphere and the sound design were just sublime, but the drop in quality after the first ep is absolutely insane. It's like a completely different team was responsible for the rest of the season.
And yeah, Mizuno's acting is parody-level bad, to the point where I'm still not sure if she won't ultimately be revealed to be an android that's still learning how to act human
I keep reading layers upon layers in her performance, because I'm thinking "she's probably pretending here and she doesn't really mean what she says, that's why her performance is off, it's a hint that she's pretending and is trying to trick the dude", but no, it's just that she can't act to save her life and her performance is off is because of that.

Hmm, well they confirmed Lily is thinking moves ahead with that flashback so I guess there is going to be a twist closer to the end of the show that she planned everything from the beginning.
Kinda bad and boring episode otherwise.

This show and reddits' comments about it are the most pseudo intellectual shit I've ever seen. So full of itself.

They seem to love spending inordinate amounts of time showing things the audience already knows/understands.
Especially ep6 now that I've seen it.. wtf.. we know all this.

For me, ep 7 was indeed better than some others, but still nothing that good and also quite predictable, e. g. the homeless guy. Who didn't see this coming?
