When u switch your shaders to ultra it uses Directx 10.
I'm playing Tales of Valor in directx 10 same video card, AMD 5400x2 @2,8GHz, 2 GB Ram and it constantly stutters. Friend is also playing it on a 4850 and is encountering the same problem.
After u try can u post your performance. I can't find the reason for the poor performance. I'm defragging and cleaning my windows vista installation weekly and have the latest drivers(catalyst 9.4).
Playing on 1280x1024 and tried different settings but the problem is persistent. Is the performance that bad on ATI's or is it poor optimization?
DX 10 Framerate:
Min: 8
Avg:aprox 35
Max: 64
DX 9:
Min:36
Avg:60
Max:85

Average-53.5
Max-62.2
Min-31.4
Don't forget this is on vista, it seems to run better on here because of my 4 gigs.

Just tried the dx9 setting, i just lowered everything from ultra to high.
I also turned tress to high as well as another 1.
Av58.9
Max-61.6
Min19.9.
I get higher performance in directx10, even though the quality is minimal ????
Also antiwhateveritscalled was at x8=max on both occasions.

Try benching with every setting at the highest level(ultra or high were needed). The framerate i posted we're at the maximum detail possible 4x antialiasing.
