As the DirectX10 multicore improvements are included, the 8.12 hotfixed drivers are probably the 9.1's.

Starting to give up on this. I know there might not be "huge" improvements implemented, but still...

I reinstalled GTA IV yesterday in lack of other stuff at the mo (will install Fallout 3 and OA later but).
Anyho, I was maybe like 5 min in game and the fan on my 4870x2 revs up to probably 100%...I check my G15 screen and it says " GPU 100c" WFT!. I reinstalled 8.12 but same thing.
To tired to start looking if there is dust trapped somewhere, but I really hope that is the culprit...otherwise I will go mad on the weekend chasing my own tail on this. I have a profile for gaming set to 50% and that has always been ok so far...well until yesterday.

Use compressed air to blow the dust out... The last time I did this, I almost chocked on all the dust that came out

FINALLY !!!!!
9.1
EDIT!:WTF!, clicking any link on that page brings you to 8.12
Is this some scam or did they not upload the new driver yet, or where they simply to lazy to rename the 8.12 hotfix...and that's all there is

They did the classic lame "post link before file servers are ready"-mistake. Ie. they're readying the new drivers.

The Catalyst 9.1 discussion over at AMD forums has some other links as well, but I want an official link dangnabbit!
Just out of curiosity, any of you guys ever bothered with stuff like Driver Sweeper when removing old drivers, or just the usual uninstall=>reboot=>install new ones?

If you opt to upgrade and are installing a new driver over the last version (e.g 8.11 to 8.12), a reboot is not required. This function has been available since Catalyst 8.6. A reboot is required though if other components are updated or Crossfire is used.
I don't recommend any 3rd party cleaners.

I only use a driver sweeper when there's a problem (ie. catalyst installer hangs for some reason etc.)..

Normally I'd install the latest and greatest, but I'm hearing that the multicore optimisations implemented in the 8.12 hotfix drivers are not present in the 9.1's. Not to mention the hotfix 8.12's run everything absolutely fine for me.
Turns out that the 8.573 drivers are the final ones. They do not include the multicore optimisation, have to wait till 9.2 for that. 9.1's are 76% OpenGL 3.0 compliant with 16 / 21 extensions now available.
9.1 on http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx finally

Anyone else with 4870x2 care to try Mirror's Edge, it actually performs way worse now... Heh and it was smooth in 8.12, pfft.

It takes time for ATI, especially in titles where NVIDIA has the upper hand or has sponsored the devs via the "The way it's meant to be played program"
This driver seems to focus fully on bringing up OpenGL 3.0 support and general stability for the drivers and ATI CCC.
Multi-core optimizations for DX10 will probably be included in 9.2 and hopefully that driver will include some performance improvements for the latest titles, as a comparison work on big titles like Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Clear Sky only recently had a performance push in Catalyst 8.12 and it's hotfixes.
For Mirrors Edge in general for X2 and Crossfire users one thing to do is to either disable Catalyst AI or rename the EXE file to for example SAM2.exe which will force Crossfire (Enable advanced Catalyst AI as well to further improve performance and don't enable physics unless you have a PPU card or similar as the glass effect will lower performance to single digits at times.)

Didn't try disabling Cat AI with 8.12 (since there wasn't any problems tbh), but with 9.1 it just makes things worse. Renaming's off the table as well, no performance increase plus sam2 screws up the player character shadows.
No idea really what's going on here, I've tried changing all the settings that I can think of but no dice.. Someone on guru3d or someplace mentioned a solid 60 FPS with vsync on with these drivers, same card and res. and a worse cpu (q6600, mine's q9550 @ 3.4GHz)... of course he might've been talking out of his ass, but 20'ish FPS can't be right.
And every other game works like it's supposed to so there shouldn't be anything screwy with my system, either. One interesting quirk with these new drivers & Mirror's Edge is that when I launch the game, the mouse cursor image stays on the screen as a flicker - alt-tab out and in again and it's gone, but that for some reason lowers the FPS even further. That didn't use to happen with 8.12.
