Jeffrey Dahmer picked up gay prostitutes etc. on gay bars, took them home, had sex with them (or skipped the sex), dozed them with heavy drugs, drilled holes in their skulls, injected hydrochloric acid into their brains to keep them as zombies he could love. This invariably failed. So he ate some to become part of them, he saved some of their heads, had necrophilic sex with the corpses, put the corpses in big blue barrels of acid to dissolve them etc.. An all around nice guy.
Ottis Toole and Henry Lee Lucas became friends and brutally killed families and people together. Ottis Toole killed tons of people on his own. Henry Lee Lucas confessed ~600 murders but have retracted most of them. Last count of probable kills is ~320.
Albert Fish didn't kill that many, but he was sick in so many ways it would take a full page to name them all. The most "famous" murder was when he kidnapped little Grace Budd after having befriended the family. He had undressed (to avoid getting blood on his clothes) and hid in a closet when he called her in. He raped her, strangled her, cut her up in pieces, ate most of her. Months later he wrote a letter to the family describing a story of how the chinese during the worst famine had to eat their children. He ended the letter with: "How sweet and tender her little ass was roasted in the oven. It took me 9 days to eat her entire body. I did not fuck her tho I could of had I wished. She died a virgin".
He later recanted the last remark and admitted he had raped her. After he had been executed they found he had inserted pins into his groin. He had apparently been beaten by his very christian parents and this had somehow created some sadomasochistic urges in the young Albert Fish.
The last thing he said before they flipped the switch: "I don't even know why I am here."
Then we have Ed Gein, the man immortalizing the girlie-suit, made of human skin. He was one sick dude with a huge Oedipus Complex. When the police scoured his house for evidence they found some of the most engrossing scenes in the history of serial killing. In the fridge they found glass jars with ears, lips, genitalia and so on. He had a tendency to perform taxidermy on the skin (he was a hunter and had done his share of preserving hides) and make lamp covers and other twisted stuff.
Last we have Ted Bundy, the charmer with a taste for high school and college girls that could sweet talk anyone into helping him into his car only to be bludgeoned to death or rendered unconscious, sodomized the corpses and got rid of them.
These are some of the most infamous serial killers in popular culture. There are others that can boast more gruesome murders, more victims etc., but the ones listed are all notorious in their own right. Each and one of them have had multiple documentaries and movies made (my personal faves are "The Secret Life: Jeffrey Dahmer" and "Portrait of a Serial Killer (about Henry Lee Lucas)").
