I'm repairing my friends 3 red lights of death. Upon taking it apart, on the back there was 4 square white pads that went on the 4 chips on the back of the motherboard. They've lost there stickiness. Is it ok to put everything back to normal without these in place or does the 360 need them? Please help? Thanks

u talking about memory chips, 360 needs something to cool them down and pressure them to the board, to spare yourself another openning do the penny trick instead of placing sticky pads back, google for it

I'm having another problem now ffs. I'ver taken it apart, repasted the chips, overheated it, but constantly I'm getting the 3 red lights? LLast night it worked, the computer come back on, but then froze after 10 mins? Since then, I've respasted the chips triued again but nothing, constantly 3 red lights??? What am i doing wrong? Hope someone can help me out here please?

did you do a x-clamp? if not, do it now. if yes, try loosening the screws a bit.

How do i loosen them?
I thought you can tighten or loosen them as they only go to a certain tightness?
Plus, when I'm overheating the xbox once I've re-done the paste, do i have to let the 360 MANUALLY turn itself off once the 2 lights come on or, do i turn the 360 off once the 2 lights come on?
It just doesn't seem to be working at all on my mates 360 this?
Worked 1st time on mine.

they are SCREWS. ever heard about a screwdriver? but i don't think we're on the same page here...doing an x-clamp = removing the x-clamps and fastening the heatsinks with normal screws and washers. here's the prcoedure that worked for me: only tighten the screws very loosely, then turn it on (rrod should be gone), let it overheat till 2 lights show up, pull the plug, tighten the screws (only grip the screwdriver with your fingertips so you only apply minimum strength), let it cool down, then start it up just to check if the rrod is still gone, maybe play a game for an hour (don't forget to put the fans back in) before putting it back together. done.
