|
 |
Hi,
just got my new HD 4870 512mb made by sapphire its the black one in this link :
http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=245
i only want to know is it normal for the MemIO temps to be 12c to 15c highier than the other 2 temperatures ? MemIO Temp when idle are around 52c with fan @ 80% & 5 minutes of playing GRID it goes up to 75C & probably more if i played longer than 5 min. is this normal ?? i'm asking this because my HD 4850 MemIO temp was almost the same as the DipIO & Shader temps even under full load.

75c on load is fine , you can always turn up the fan speed in CCC ( or set it to automatic which should let the fan kick in at those temps)

Using Riva Tuner to "automatic" set the fan speed. But I would recommend the GPU coolers from Arctic Cooling. I am so fed up of hearing that little fan rev up to over 5000 rpm when ever I play a game. I guess I could put the threshold on a higher temp in RT, but I like to keep it at around 70-75c hence the mad fan RPM/noise.

i tried to install RT but vista 64 wont install the driver.anyway i have made seperate profiles for the ati overdrive with short cuts one for idle with fan set @ 70% & the other for gaming with fan set @ 100%,the temps while gaming dropped by about 4c but the fan is extremely noisy, good thing i use stereo headphones & xfi gamer sound card.
ps: i touched one of the tiny little black blocks on the back of the hd 4870 while idling & my finger was burnt.oooooch

Hmmm regarding the temps and fan, ive just installed a 4870 1gb xfx version of the card and so far the MEMIO temps or any other than the main gpu temp on gpu-z read 50c's like 53 54 56 not gone into the 60's on those for sure yet..
My fan I idle it at 28 or 30c and get on a normal temp day here in UK a reading of anything from 38 in daytime through to 42/44 by late afternoon depending how the weather is i guess.
Ive been running Empire total war for 3hrs straight earlier and the card temp with the fan speed at 40% didnt go above 54c.. I also tested it in Everquest 2 mmo for a good hour and again the card hasnt moved out the 50's on 40% fan speed.. The GPU activity always seems to read 99% when gaming via GPU-Z
So far for myself, the card is cooler than my 8800gtx ever was, and for that im rather happy..
Maybe its just the diff brands of card manufacturer/fan efficiency etc that is the let down..
p.s I have not tried riva tuner yet and have been using the general CCC panel to set profiles for my games to up the fan speed to 40 and so forth... Only thing I find weird is the card declocking to 2d 600mhz and back to 750 then back to 600 etc until the 3d window/game is running fully..

here is sapphire's reply to my question:
| Quote: | Dear Sir
Sir, The three green LED light is for VDDC passed. It means electricity is connected for your card. The MEMIO temp yours is under normal behaviour. It can reach to 115C, so no worry for this. Thanks.

& here is a very useful link i found through Googling which explains the error codes (red leds):
