Sup all?

i was thinking about upgrading my old c2d e6400 (oc to 3.4ghz) to e5200 (plan to oc it to 4ghz)...is it worth it? 12.5 ratio multi really awesome with e5200...

my rig:
asus p5b deluxe
3gb g.skill 800mhz
e6400 (8*425)
9800gtx* zotac

i can sell my cpu and just add 20$ or so for e5200...sounds good...
what do ya think?

that wouldn't be an upgrade exactly, plus there is no guarantee that your examplar of e5200 will overclock that high

Have to agree with mort here because remember that although that multiplier looks nice the e5200 has a lower fsb of 800. Now whether you will be able to get a higher fsb with the cpu you get is a gamble and don't go on the OCs achieved by the hardware reviewers or hardcore OCers. Those guys get/use specially selected cpus and real world results vary. Here's a nice review by some non-professional reviewer comparing some cpus.

Not exactly comparable since the reviewer was using an e6600 but you get the idea. But look how small the impact of that performance improvement is on gaming benchmarks.

Not worth it the performance increase wouldn't be much really and your assuming a good overclock which is risky. Also I don't know how much you assume you can sell your old e6400 but as its used the value has decreased a large amount even more so since you OCed it. While you may be dishonest and sell it claiming you never overclocked only a idiot would be willing to pay more for a used CPU simply because the seller claims it was never OCed.

If you're in the US I'm guessing you saw the CPU on Slick Deals? They are $62 now. Laughing
