I have a couple of queries for people who have a modded 360 console right now. I am planning to get a Pro Bundle in sometime & just wanted to get a few things clarified.

1.) I don't often indulge in Multi-player gaming & hence won't be looking to use much of the Live service. Will I need Live for any other reasons other than updates or game demos?

2.) Do the newer games require latest dashboard updated/firmware updates? I mean if I mod my console & don't want any of this updating nonsense, will there be any issues with playing the latest game back ups if I don't keep it up-to-date?

3.) What is a stealth patch? Do we have to stealth patch the game or does the scene release do it?

4.) How difficult is it to burn Xbox 360 DVD's? I mean is it as simple as burning a PS2 DVD via DVD Decrypter? or there is other procedure involved?

5.) Are Verbatim DVD's a must for burning? Any experience with other DVD's? If yes then kindly mention the brand.

6.) I have a Samsung DVD-RW SH-223F model DVD burner on my PC. Will that be able to burn the DVD's fine? Also Does 360 support DVD-RW burned discs?

Thanks in advance to all you people.

1. No

2. Yes, but new games come with new dash. (And why exactly updating to new dashboard is nonsense? It allows installing games on hardrive for maximum silence and speed among other features.).

3. All scene releases are steath patched now, but if you download very old game there is a chance that it's no patched and you should do it yourself with ABGX360 or XDVDMulleter.

4. All releases come with .iso and .dvd file. Simply select .dvd file and press burn in ImgBurn.

5. No, Verbs are not a must, but they are highly recommended. But latest xbox'es with liteon drives can read any shitty media without problems. I still prefer Verbs, there is no point in saving 10-30 cents on a shitty brand.

6. No idea, but if it can burn Dual Layer discs it will be able to burn 360 isos. All 360 games require dual layer discs, and there are no rewritable DL discs, so no.

And make sure your preflashed xbox comes with iXtreme 1.51 firmware (which just came out), or you won't be able to play new games.

First off thanks a lot for your quick reply. Much appreciated.

My main point was that when MS releases their firmware updates (which are downloadable via Live), is it necessary we install those updates on our modded console for better compatibility of playing back up games? If that is yes then will installing those updates erase/hamper the existing firmware on my driver by any chance? Also you said that new games comes with new Dash, meaning even the back up DVD's would have this update?

And if it doesn't have the .dvd file in it? How difficult it is to create it?

What does layer break mean while creating the DVD? Also you guys were talking about Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. & MLB2K9 having a new Video break sessions or something like that. What exactly is it?

My apologies for the noobish queries but I'm completely clueless about the 360 modding. Thanks again for your reply.

I believe layer break is just the point that the disc splits the dual layers..
The .DVD file contains this info as well as the .iso filename...

Layerbreak is always 1913760 as far as I know..

Yeah you can create .dvd file yourself with notepad, or let programs like ABGX360 do it.

It looks like this

Code:
LayerBreak=1913760
some-game.iso

First line is always the same, second line must have iso name, and that's it.

New video wave is because new games (starting with MLB and HAWX) have NXE (latest dash) on disc. You need latest firmware 1.51 to be able to play them properly (that's why I said make sure you buy preflashed xbox with 1.51).

One more query guys:
If I ought to give the console to a unknown person for modding, how would I know if my DVD drive hasn't been swapped to an old one?

Just asking this out of curiosity. Should I make some mark with a permanent marker on the DVD drive? Is it possible for that person to replace, lets say my Lite-On drive with a Hitachi/BenQ drive & still make the console work?

The chances of some unscrupulous swine nicking your DVD drive are pretty slim, but if you're seriously worried about it... yeah; the permanent marker trick should do fine. Just put a mark on the info tab on top of the drive, or something.

As far as swapping out and making the other drive work? Yeah, it's possible via a process called "spoofing" (where you dump the drivekey off the current drive and insert it into the firmware on a new one. The new one, for all intents and purposes, then BECOMES the older drive - at least as far as the 360 can see)

I'm planning on doing a drive-swap on my own 360 in a while, as it's starting to lose the ability to read poor-quality media (Verbs work 100%, but my old games burned on RiTek S04-66s won't read anymore)

Thanks for the quick reply Sabin. Where should I exactly make a mark on the drive? I won't be able to open console, so should place a mark on the DVD tray?

bottom of the dvd tray is well hidden ... you never have the tray open when the x360 is upside down (only upside down when disassembling)

Didn't quite understand that part? Where do you want me to place a mark?

Open the tray on the 360 (just press eject Razz) and then make a mark on the underside of it.
