I heard that Trust is bad, so I won't even include it in this poll Very Happy.

I have question, to those who have this products, and who knows what they are talking about. I would like to buy, in the near future, a tablet, strictly for amateur use. Nothing serious, just for casual drawing here and there (that's why intuos or cintiq are not in the poll Smile ).

I have heard that Bamboo wacom is great for casual use, but the main problem that I see is small surface (http://www.wacom.com/BambooTablet/bamboo.php.)
It's active area is only 5.8" x 3.7". Is that enough or?

Looking in that price range (~100-150€) I have seen Genius G-Pen M712 (http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/25/genius-introduces-g-pen-m712-m609-pen-tablets/) which, as I've searched on the net, is good for beginners. On the plus side is the active surface 12" x 7.25" (wide) / x 9.5" x 7.25" (standard) which is bigger than wacoms.

So what do you think? What is your experience with the products? Help me out.

first of all, you should really think about an intuos3. it may be a bit more expensive, but after having one myself for a few years, i wouldn't wanna go back to anything else. the pen is light (which is imho quite important when drawing), precision is unmatched and those things are indesctructible. and don't forget that you'll have it for many, many years so it's worth the investment.

if you can't go over 150 bucks, get the genius - it may not be up to wacom standards, but i've heard good things about it. the trust tablets are fubar anyway and the bamboo is a kid's toy. or look for an used intuos on ebay or craigslist.

another thing you should consider is HOW you draw and your monitor size. if you draw from the wrist, then a5/a6 is just fine, but if you draw from the elbow (like me), you'll want to go up to a4 or even a3.

oh and if you get the chance, try out the tabletsin a shop. after all, it comes down to what feels right for you, not random ppl on teh interwebz Wink

Intuos looks nice, but here it's ~450€ which is waaay too much for me Sad Why can't I win the lottery? Sad

Well I draw from elbow, and that's why I was concerned about the bamboos size...
What I'm also worried about is the lag? Is there any and on what does it depends on?

EDIT: For wacom pen can you use intuos pen on bamboo? Or is every pen specific for the product?

yeah wacoms are far too expensive here in the EU, but you just need to kook around on ebay (got my a3 almost brand new for 500€)

if you draw from the elbow, definitely go with the genius if you can't find a cheap wacom.

regarding lag: on the wacom there isn't any, don't know about the genius though

don't know about using pens on different tablets, but intuos pens are damn expensive...so even if it would work, bamboo+intuos pen is about the same price as a intuos3 a6/a5 or a bit lower, so why not get an intuos in the first place?

btw, if you want more opinions on the whole topic, post your questions on the cgsociety forums, huge tablet userbase there Wink
