garrett: pure awesomeness. not only from a technical standpoint, but mainly concerning his artistic quality. that's simply what you get if you start out at the same age as mozart and learn from the best.
that guitar dude however...i mean, what's the fucking point. shredding is all about motor neuron memory stuff and practicing till you get tendon/nerve inflammations - lock anyone in a dungeon cell for 5 years together with a guitar and he'll be able to match that guy's speed as well as his looks
Im not impressed the least bit. He's hitting the easiest scales and just moviing up and down 1 string period. Switches to another string and from the looks/sounds of it he's alternating index finger middle finger pinky to index ring pinky.
Im sure if zakk wylde or michael angelo batio intered that contest they'd kick his ass up and down the street.
Doing the same he does but with actual scales/technique/beat while switching strings.
Doing all that shit on one string tremelo picking isn't worlds fastest anything. Maybe in his little village but that's it.

To set the speed record? The whole thing was just showing off a technical feat, I'm sure the guy can play 'properly' as well.
yeah, the speed record for playing scales
music's also about timing and expression. you know, like in....an actual SONG. malmsteen's flamenco diablo would make a great standard for world speed records
Obviously it has no musical merit per se, it's just ego masturbation to show how many bpm's he can pull off (and it is pretty impressive from a technical pov, probably need to play yourself to appreciate it tho). But so what, some people like to do that whatever their interests are, some people take overclocking way too seriously, for example.

trust me - been there, done that after playing for 15 years. and i've taken some etudes to extreme speeds myself. of course everyone can whack of his mind (or guitar, for that matter) to whatever he wants, but when it comes to showing off, the guys shredding scales are even worse than all those kids playing canon rock on youtube
What he's doing are barely even scales. He's doing the same exercise guitar instructors give their students to learn how to learn the individuality of each finger, he's just doing them all up and down one string, occasionally moves it, etc.
I could slap my hard-on on the frets while trem. picking as fast as I could and I'd get the same results.

Nope, your just talking out of your ass. Sorry but you bitch in allmost each and every thread about things YOU could even do (better). Why do we never hear anything from you then? Why aren't you on youtube and presenting stuff? Oh right you're too cool for this kind of "lameness". Instead you prefer to rant on the internet

Right cause I'm so lame I don't spend my time posting videos of myself on youtube being the worlds fastest guitar player.
Go learn something about guitar then come back here when you have a clue dip shit.
Anyone who plays guitar can look at him and conclude the same thing. He's not doing scales, all he's doing is tremelo picking which is easier than picking your nose and alternating 3 fingers at a time up and down 1 fucking string. Ya, im talking out of my ass alright.
The shit he's "doing so insanely" fast is nothing more than a practice session.
Imho at this speed you can't afford to >lift< your fingers to reach for another tone.
You need every millisecond to readjust your fingers to hit the right tone. Thus the sliding on the strings.
I don't think he is a show off.
You really need the skills. I don't claim I have them!
Take Herman Li for instance. He is fast and dynamic too. Maybe no THE best player but he is seriously fast.
It's the asian on the left.
He plays guitar in DragonForce.
Anyway, the "Flight of The Bumble Bee" Song is boring but common for speed measuring.
My friend once played the violin of my little sister once like a guitar. It's actually possible.
That "Michael Angelo Batio" video is very nice too. Luckily there are some guitar gods still among us!

Are you crazy? There was NO reason to pull of personal insults! Did I mention anything about your situation? I just said that you always complain but don't deliver. Did I say that you live in a small cellar room, in the dark and just spam forums? No, because I know shit about you. And you don't know anything about me.
You have serious problems if you feel the need to attack people for random reasons. Yeah it's pretty easy to hide behind your own 4 walls and shouting out on the internet, beeing the greatest and shit.
BTW. it IS a skill to play it as fast as this. Bumble Bee is, as mentioned before, oftenly used as speed measurement because it is easy to play and it is easy to achive high speeds because the ONLY goal is to be fast! The vid does not say BEST guitar player on earth. Nor does it say this is the most complex song because each and every motherfucking steaming pile of shit nerd will rant about which song he should play and that he is a gay noob.
But really, you have serious problems, I would suggest consulting a psychologist. If you don't want to leave your room, you might try to ask lutz if he can be any help to you.
Impressive technique. Blazingly fast. I guess if he was trying to emulate a guitar-playing robot he's pretty spot on. But it was a record making attempt, and he definitely deserve his place in the book of useless hobbies.
He has a mullet, that's all there is to it. If you have a mullet, you rock ass, period.
a mullet doesn't mean you rock, it just means that you don't give a fuck
and psychokillergr, it's the hair
Spoiler:
lol I meant if you look at not all but MOST of the best guitar players, the majority of them have a mullet, so I came to the conclusion that if you have a mullet you get this mysterious magical power to play some bad ass guitar I would like to try it sometime but, Im not sure I'd look that amazing with it lol

from those premises i would've come to the conclusion that rednecks are good guitar players, but i guess that would've been just as wrong

People like Michael Angelo Batio are amazing to watch, there's a certain cerebral buzz to seeing someone just blazing technique from another planet. However, I'd never buy an album by Batio because his solo work is tedious and flat (beyond technically impressive), and that's something that is apparent among many of these lightning-fast shredders. They have amassed an enormous amount of technical skill that they've lost touch with the "feeling" in playing. Their vibratos are very calculated and exact, their notes are picked in exactly 64th's or 32's. They've just lost the organic part of music and add to that the fact that many of them can't write good songs.
That said, there are some amazing guitarists that have feeling in equal amounts to technical skills, and those are the ones that usually "make it" beyond being features in guitar magazines.
Muris Varajic, a truly jaw dropping Bosnian guitarist that is probably the best guitarist I know of. He's got technical skills from the Andromeda galaxy, but more important, he's got that "feeling", that touch of emotion in playing that puts him above most speed-shredders.
