|
 |
gidday mates,
well i had a 8800gt oc that worked fine but it fried and in return i got a 9800.
in all the games i play (tried like 5-6) i can play for 5-10 minutes and then the screen just becomes a solid color (in POP brown, GTA pink i was in the bowling, CoDWaW blue like on the forums here, dead space went plack)
so i tried uninstalling the drivers did a driver clean up and tried both nvidia 180.48-84 drivers and it still happens.
anyone have any idea?

Wow, this is a bizarre problem, never heard of it before... Have you tried logging the temperatures of the card while playing? It could be overheating...

Yup, sounds like overheating and/or insufficient PSU (that could also be the reason for your old gfx frying).

Sounds like a heat prob like iNatan said. Could well be that you need to get that gracard RMAed or somet.
Get EVEREST to check your temps real time.

does your rig only crash during gaming? were you able to test a simular card with external power on your rig to see if its something else than your own card that is at fault?
make sure the fan isnt blocked by a wire or something

Why does everyone assume it's heat? Anyway, I had weird problems with video card (artifacts, crashes) in the past and it wasn't heat related at all. It was PSU. It's unlikely a brand new card can overheat.

You say that your old 8800gt fried, How much did you have it overclocked
Try a different card in it just to test if the mobo is damage.
and how big is your PSU?

you happen to have a friend who would let you stick the 9800gt in his computer to make sure it works?

better cards = better PSU's
Try out the Thermaltake ToughPower 700W with Cable Management (better case airflow).
Also notice that better cards needs PSU's better Rails and Amps thingy...
Go here http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and put all you said there, then Calculate..if you think the powerage is bottleneck or is too risky change ya PSU

BTW, these are almost never trustworthy.
שייטת13, try reinstalling Windows before wasting money on a new PSU (I doubt that's the problem, he ran the 8800GT on that PSU and it was fine, and the 9800GT isn't all that of a change).

I had the same thing with A64 4000+... Everyone said it's the PSU, even 'proved' to me by telling me how low some digits were on SpeedFan. I replaced my PSU with a quality one, and surprise surprise , it was the CPU overheating.
So it could be a lot of things, with the PSU being the highly unlikely factor (but possible).

Get this:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/ntune_5.05.54.00.html
And run both the core and the memory tests for overclocking of the GPU (don't overclock, just the tests).

I'd just skip all the diagnostics and RMA the fucking thing. If card #2 does the same shit then try to figure out what's wrong.

If he's from IL, as I think he is, he will have a very hard time convincing the sellers there's a problem with the card. You have no idea how dumb the are (or make themselves are appear to be)...

i disconnected all fans and hdds ecept the main one and it still happend so i dont think it has to do with power.
i just played gta and after 10 minutes it just froze it didnt change to a solid color.
half the time it freezes the picture half the time it becomes a sloid color

It probably depends on which stage of the drawing it happens.
Reinstall Windows, if that doesn't happen take the card back to the store.
