And I think ppl dont draw the distinction between a marriage recognize by the church and a marriage recognized by the the gov (civil). Whats wrong with a civil marriage? I dont think gays want a church marriage anyway.

Dont get me wrong, I dont care if 2 ppl who are truly in love decide not to get married, thats cool.
But to me, marriage is a symbol of love and commitment. And more, it validates it you know?
I hope to get married again. To a woman I am completely in love with. Truth be told my ex was my my first real love and I just jumped into marriage, which, in retrospect, was wrong and the biggest mistake ive ever made.
Thats why now, if I date a woman who has any negative qualities that my exwife had, I dump her.
I now know exactly what I want and what I dont want and I can recognize the signs. |

Like i said, there is a COMPLETE different between a religious wedding and a civil one. Gays are entitled to civil marriages. Civil marriages mean the Government recognizes them.
And about your bible comment, do you really believe in the old book of jewish fairy tales?
If you do, I take it you believe in Santa and the Easter bunny too? Just as "real" as the garbage in the bible.
And we have had gay marriage in Ontario for a few years now. It hasnt destroyed hetero families, made ppl gay and all the other bullshit excuses that ppl use when they turn to religion.
Because if you want to go by religion, traditional marriage was polygamny. Take Abraham. The man had 30 fuckin wives.
And lets skip forward a hundred years or so. Women were a commodity. Fathers traded their daughters to other men and in return those men would give them slaves, livestock or land.
And lets skip ahead to the middle ages. Marriages were determined by social class. Artistocrats could only marry the same type of ppl (and etc for every type of class).
And lets skip to modern times. Interracial marriage was "unnatiral" and "not what god wanted"...well that was repealed.
The ban on gay marriage in the US is simply social oppression. And taking away civil liberty's granted by the Constitution of the United States to appease the religious nut jobs.
Gay marriage is not a threat. It doesnt destroy hetero marriages or take away from their symbolic value. It doesnt cause chaos and it doesnt cause spontaneous "gayness".
Plain and simple, gay marriage does not do any harm. Why should 2 ppl who love each other, who have spent 10 or more years together (like alot of gay couples have) not be given the right to marry?
Imagine you were with a woman (in a relationship). You spend the rest of your life with her and both of you have insurance. But when she dies or you die, you dont get the money because your not "married"...
Its wrong and ridiculous.

I agree with dominae but have my views on marriage.
Marriage forces people to make unfair and unrealistic standards. Common sense teaches you to never speak in absolutes, yet marriage requires you to speak absolutely about something as broad, as wide ranged and as intangible as love. That is insane. Not only that, the concept of marriage has a built in punishment for failure. Why is something that is supposedly about love and commitment, so deeply embedded in our legal system? in our monetary system? Its because the idea of punishment, a scarlet letter if you will, for failure is so deeply driven in and attached to marriage that the concepts transcend marriage and pr evade every facet of our lives. Thats stupid.
If marriage were about what it pretends to be about, I'd probably be fine with it. Its not. Not even fucking close.
As for this gay marriage stuff it's too complicated and annoying to discuss.

i don't get it why two guys (who get paid better already) should get some tax reduction thingys plus it's not necessarily so that one of 'em is gonna stop working because they get a child. etc. (well i don't know what benefits married couples get in the us or canada)
in my book there's no reason for gay couples to get any financial benefits.

yup, that's a healthy perspective to have on things.
after another 2yr failed relationship, i was pretty convinced that being single is better, from an absolute point of view. but i was wrong. as long as you know what to avoid, and as long as you manage to be objective about the other person, you should be able to get together with someone who won't fuck you up. also acknowledging previous mistakes should help avoiding running a relationship in the ground.
there's nothing wrong with marriage, in itself. the wrong comes when people act on impulse and refuse to accept obvious facts if they don't like said facts. like a buddy of mine that got married a couple of years ago. he finally admitted that he has nothing in common with his wife but still keeps it going. inertia and laziness also factor into this, i guess.
