I can't believe I only just thought of this!!

Ok, here's my idea -- tell me I'm right or shoot me down in flames, please! Basically, the Xbox1 was a legendary machine for homebrew, both in dashboard content and applications -- and it seems some clever people have made DVDs of emulators (like xSNES9x, that runs OFF the DVD like any normal Xbox game) so what is stopping the 360 from loading *those* by using the 360's internal Xbox1 emulator??

So, onto the second part; I know Xbox1 ports have to be converted and burned as DVD9s to run on the 360 --- so how would I go about doing that? Again, for example, using my DVD of xSNES9x for the Xbox?

(I hope I'm making sense here, heh)

Makes sense to me and sounds like it may work. However if those emulators were tweaked to work for the Xbox1 hardware it may not accept the 360's very well..

I think you have to get some certification on the disc from Microsoft. Dont they usually tweak the originals to run it off the X360?

I suck at life. Either that or Microsoft do Sad

I just did a bit more digging and it seems the whole XBE deal on what is compatible for the internal emulator revolves around the emulation_table function list on the 360. There's a list of games/etc that are supported .. and if an XBE doesn't appear on that particular table, then the 360 just complains and tells you it isn't compatible yet.

I strongly doubt MS are going to add homebrew emulators to that table.

*sigh*

Oh well. Guess I'll just keep waiting for the 360 to be cracked open and in the meantime I'll emulate on my PC.

why dont you get a first gen xbox ? its cheap nowadays, 50 euros. you dont need a big hard drive if you're planning to play emulators. you can also stream your divx from your pc to your xbox. (xbmc) you just need to find somebody in your area who could install an exploit on the xbox Smile : http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/Users_Help_Users#Norway

I have a 360 for gaming and a xbox for media center / old games / emulator.

I've got one, but it's back in England unfortunately. I only bought my 360 over to Norway when I come to stay with my girlfriend. I built my PC here and shipped over my 360.

My original Xbox has a 160GB HDD, Xecuter 2 Pro modhip and UnleashX as the dashboard, along with every - working - emulator Sad

*Note*

Oh and I can stream XviD/DivX to my 360 too, thanks to the Optional Media Update Very Happy

Yeah, as I said to Jenni before (she wasn't too happy either.. teehee) I'm astounded that nobody has managed to "crack" the 360 yet. The amount of power this machine has would translate into PERFECT emulation. The tri-core, 3.2Ghz, CPU and the X1950XTX-derivative would be awesome for DC, PS2, N64, Saturn, PS1 and perhaps even Gamecube emulation.

Not to mention the other wonderful stuff available on the original Xbox like;

Installing games to HDD.
Replacement dashboards.
Complete Media Center addons (MKV and x.264 playback?) with no need for the overly-expensive Media Remote.
Web-browsers.
Linux support!

*sigh* Keep dreaming Sabin. Crying or Very sad

Yeah, I knew about the games install .. but there will still be the "limitation" of needing the DVD in the tray for checks. I can deal with that if it means I don't have to deal with the texture issues in Mass Effect and GTA4 .. and also the agonisingly slow loading times for Lost Odyssey.

I didn't, however, know about the upcoming web browser! Shocked Got a source, bud?

Have you considered Transcode 360 for streaming? Its a) free to use and b) Supports MKV/H264 playback.

As for the web browser, I didn't think anything official was ever really said. There was a link last december with a video of a browser but that turned out to be a fake made by some cock jockey. Personally, I think its pointless on a console purely as its not made for a) browsing and b) typing.

Last I heard, lots of the interest in homebrew had died for the 360. The fact you need signed code before anything runs kinda makes things difficult. Seemed to me, most parties have given up a little.

Oh, you might want to look at this for streaming as well. Looks pretty good but had no first hand experience of it (yet)

VME

and this is the best I've seen for a web browser of sorts.

I think it's only a 1900XTX.

I dunno, I'd rather just build a mATX box with an 8600GT in it (for HD decoding). Probably end up being 350$ all said and done.

Strange, my Xbox played them fine. 720 of course, not 1080 .. I think the poor Xbox would cough and die if it tried running 1080, hehehe
