Ok I had a thread about this prob some month ago or so. But started a new one as i think we need to get to the bottom of it.

Ok here is the prob. ANY! driver post

"169.25_forceware_winvista_32bit_english_whql" That's 2007, 21th of December

Makes my PC freeze, black screen for 1-2 sec and kick back in to windows (VISTA). I also get a little "Warning Triangle" in the task bar that something went wrong, can't click it but...just sits there.

I thought with the new "177.83_geforce_winvista_32bit_international_whql"
This would go away, but it didn't

I am using Driver Sweeper and Driver Cleaner Pro + CC cleaner to get rid of ANY! traces of old NV drivers after a deinstall (always in SAFE MODE!).

This is simply driving me nuts!. I will get an ATI card in a week or 2, but in the mean time I would really like to be able to run the latest drivers.

My hardware is as follows.

C2D E8500@4Mhz
ASUS Rampage Formula X48
EVGA 8800GTX
4Gb Corsair Dominator 1066 (2x2 Gb)
Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS
TAGAN 800W Pipe Rock

VISTA 32bit SP1 (All updates etc)

If there is some file that needs to be deleted prior to installing a new NV driver that the above mentioned progs don't see etc...what would that be?

I have noticed that my res etc are always like it was before I installed a new driver, in other words, it seems that something is telling the new driver what my setting where.

This would normally not be the case if EVERYTHING was deleted. I would normally have to set the res etc again after a install...or?.

Any ideas here are welcome. Cheers guys!.

Have you tried running 3dmark on it with a working driver and look for artifacts, card might be broken.

Nope. Not with the newer drivers. But I did with the one that works 169.25, and all is ok. It's a really weird one.

You must update the cards bios then, maybe you got an early version of the card with an early bios.

This is a massive thread with ppl having simular issiues, myself included, try installing the 169.44 driver, seemed to work ok for me, btw this isn't the gpu overheating, unless 54deg is too hot for the 8800gts (it has crashed at this temp many times)

Wow. I knew it could not only be me!. Cheers yoyoxp. Will read that thread and see what comes out of it.

I suspect that a new install of VISTA might fix it...but that's way to much work for this crap as i will have a new card in a week or 2 anyway.

Have no heat issues. I use EVGA Precision and have the fan at 100% at all times. At the mo the temp is at 48c. I believe the card can withstand up to 120c before it throttles down.

@ Espilon, as far as I know there is only one BIOS update for the EVGA 8800GTX and its for

According to eVGA it is only for the Apple display issues.

But could be wrong there. will check that as well.

Cheers guys.
