fuck all is gonna happen.
99% of scientists debunked the theory as sci-fi fantasy. The most that will happen is the machine will explode and take the building with it.

Yeah but it's more fun to think that an accident could rip the very fabric of existence asunder, or at least open a portal to hell or to the evil mirror dimension.

I read that those dreaded black hole experiments are scheduled for October 21st 2008 at 9:30 AM GMT. We might have to be a little more patient.

I don't live far from that thing... Remember being there with my physics teacher and classmates when in college. Shit that was about 10 years ago... I remember being told that this kind of thing could maybe create a black hole or some shit... That probably the most impressive piece of technology I've ever seen.
I also have a friend who used to work there as an electrician...I hope he's done his job right...

Hmm, I have to agree that the possibility of a resonance cascade scenario is extremely low.

Quote: | The first delay was precipitated by an accident in March 2007 during stress testing of one of the LHC's "quadrupole" magnets.
A statement carried on the Cern website from the US laboratory that provided the magnet stated that the equipment had experienced a "failure" when supporting structures "broke".
It later emerged that the magnet had exploded in the tunnel, close to one of the LHC's most important detectors, prompting the the facility to be evacuated. |

The thing is that even in a million years those micro black holes (if they persist that long, which btw they don't) wouldn't done anything bad. If I remember it correctly it has something to do with the inertia of the micro black hole... so no doomsday scenario But if they really discover Higgs bozon it would mean a breakthrough of new theories (yeeehaaa for me )
"Quantum mechanics is actually, contrary to it's reputation, unbeliveably simple, once you take the physics out."
