OK, so I've been able to burn most games using verbatim + my sony drx-820u ... however it fails to burn a disc maybe ~40-50% of the time ... these are two of the error messages:

(ignore the model number is different, 820A and my drive are them same, just mine is external USB)

now, I also have a pioneer dvr-212D ... 100% of the time the burn is successful, but I get this message always when trying to play the disc:

so yeah, getting sick of wasting almost every other disc ... to get some stuff out of the way ... the firmware is updated on both, I've tried different programs (also adjusting the interface from SPTI to ElbyCDIO) ... and the same image that has failed burning has either been successful with a second attempt on the sony or the first attempt on sony after trying the pioneer.

any ideas?

Are you sure your xbox laser isn't on its way out?
Also rather than using Clone why not try XBC remembering to set it to the type of drive you have in the xbox.

well it's brand new... plus I only get the message on discs burned with the pioneer drive -- never comes up with the burns from sony drive ...

will try XBC and see if it gives a different result ...

I guess I should also add that I'm checking the images with dvd mulleter...all is fine in that regard.

That's exactly what I do.

Now, you can't set booktype on this drive, but googling says that pioneer drives automatically set dvd+r DL to dvd-rom.

yup works fine. I also have 20 other games that work fine, just not burned with the pioneer.

gonna try another couple now, hopefully it wasn't a fluke

i'm afraid to disappoint u but difference is so tiny it's like agp 4x vs 8x

if u worried about big cables then there is rounded ide cables

It's not only cables, although they are sexy and small, new motherboards don't even have any IDE ports and there is no reason why they should, it's inferior, outdated technology.

I think I've seen a few but the point is there will be less and less, I remeber being so happy when I got rid of the last ide junk I had, probably an old dvd burner, it's so much nicer now with more space and less cables, hard drives are all sata now all that's left is the dvd's but I can see two blue ray units in my shop and they are both sata so it's only a matter of time.

I have 3 HDs and the dvdr, all SATA .. no IDE for me Smile

also, just burnt 2nd successful disc in a row. seems that my burner only likes XBC Razz anyways, it's a pretty handy app ... also has the functionality of dvd mulleter built in Smile

hahha yeah, who would have thought just another program would solve the problem considering I tried 3 different ones already. not to mention in all the googling I did and not one thing came up about using that program for just burning images.

now it's off to the races for burning games. I think burning and collecting is just as much fun for me as actually playing them Razz

does it not seem strange that the choice of burning prog would make such a difference?

Probably a setting not correct in the other programs. But the XBC program is dedicated to the job so the chances are that they will be already set. Another thing with XBC is you can set it to the drive you have in your XBOX.
