Are you sure your xbox laser isn't on its way out?
Also rather than using Clone why not try XBC remembering to set it to the type of drive you have in the xbox.

well it's brand new... plus I only get the message on discs burned with the pioneer drive -- never comes up with the burns from sony drive ...
will try XBC and see if it gives a different result ...
I guess I should also add that I'm checking the images with dvd mulleter...all is fine in that regard.

Donkey poo, I use sata and liteOn works perfect with 100% success, death to all IDE infidels that's like caveman technology.
I get that message when I put the xbox dvd on my pc.

That's exactly what I do.
Now, you can't set booktype on this drive, but googling says that pioneer drives automatically set dvd+r DL to dvd-rom.

It's not only cables, although they are sexy and small, new motherboards don't even have any IDE ports and there is no reason why they should, it's inferior, outdated technology.

all mobo's i've seen so far have at least one ide port | I think I've seen a few but the point is there will be less and less, I remeber being so happy when I got rid of the last ide junk I had, probably an old dvd burner, it's so much nicer now with more space and less cables, hard drives are all sata now all that's left is the dvd's but I can see two blue ray units in my shop and they are both sata so it's only a matter of time.

does it not seem strange that the choice of burning prog would make such a difference?

Probably a setting not correct in the other programs. But the XBC program is dedicated to the job so the chances are that they will be already set. Another thing with XBC is you can set it to the drive you have in your XBOX.
