I'm debating.

I have stock on $219.99 HIS Radeon HD3870's. I can get max 2. I am wanting some Crossfire/SLI (prefer crossfire).

I will be gaming at 1920x1080 so it's almost a must.

Should I hold out and get 1 1gb GTS (reviews pending) or get the 3870's and wait for good ATI drivers.

With the lot of Nvidia fanboys here, I'm sure I should be expecting some serious NVIDIA support, which isn't a problem, but justify it with more than bang for your buck, because the 3870's at their price point are just as good at bang for buck.

I don't know, you have to see if two 3870s in cf are faster than one 8800GTX alone (or even better, two 8800GT in SLI). All three options should come to about the same cost. I doubt both.

And it's not just fanboism, I think benchmarks speak for themselves.

The board I have supports crossfire only, I should've mentioned that. So it is a matter of sub $500 total CDN.

I can't SLI the 8800GTs. So it's 1 1gb GTS, or maybe a GTX or ultra or the xfire ATI.

The benchmarks don't do a lot of speaking for bang for buck though, that's the problem.

With SLI out of the question, things change somewhat... (Add that info on the first post)

But still, check if an 8800GTX isn't faster than the crossfire setup. If I'm not mistaken, it is, but I'm not sure. Bang for buck for you is having the maximum power under 1920x1080. The Ultra is I think the real contender here, but again, I have no benchies to back me (just memory of some that I've seen).

I completely forgot to add it into the first post (I was thinking about it, my hands just didnt type it).

The 8800GTX is around $550 CDN which is slightly above the price point... I really think the xfired 3870's might be my best option and just pray the do release some stability in terms of drivers. I have a former co-worker who works for the AMD driver department (she tests the drivers) and says they're getting better regularly, but not to expect too much in the near future (a month or so before major upgrades).

The ultra again, is way out of my price range at the moment, and I believe 1GB will be my best bet at 1920x1080. The rest of the computer is fairly pimping though and is all coming together nicely Smile

If you really need to blow $500 wait until the next series of cards early next year. I am completely against SLi/Xfire - waste of space.

If you buy a GTX it has the potential to outperform that Xfire setup due to complications with drivers supporting games, games supporting 2 cards, etc. So most of the time with a new release you'll be limited to a single card doing the rendering anyway. I think it's a stupid alternative for speed freaks - 1 monster card is less heat, energy, complicated then 2.
